The 13th edition of the South Asian Games 2019 has kicked off with the opening ceremony on 1st December 2019 at the Dasarath Rangala Stadium in Kathmandu as Nepal gets ready to host the multi-nation tournament.

One of the most highly sought after sporting event at the South Asian Games 2019 along with the athletics event is the Kabaddi event.

The South Asian Games 2019 Kabaddi event for both Men and Women begin on the 4th December at the APF Hall Halchowk in Kathmandu and end with both the finals on 9th December 2019.

The sport of Kabaddi was introduced at the South Asian Games for the first time at the inaugural edition of the event in 1985 which was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The event was only introduced for the men and India was the first gold medal winner defeating Bangladesh in the final.

Women's Kabaddi was introduced at the 2010 South Asian Games held in Dhaka. India was the winner of the gold medal at the event defeating the hosts Bangladesh in the final match.

Since the introduction back in 1985 South Asian Games, it has been 10 editions over more than three decades and India has won 9 gold medals except for one edition in 1993. Pakistan managed to get the gold medal at the 1993 South Asian Games getting the better of India in the final.

In addition to one gold, Pakistan has won six silver medals and three bronze medals at the South Asian Games. Bangladesh are the third most successful nation in Kabaddi at the South Asian Games with a haul of three silver medals and six bronze medals. Sri Lanka have won two bronze medals with Nepal managing to get one bronze medal as well.

Prediction of medals for Indian Men and Women at the South Asian Games 2019

Looking at historical data and the composition of the current Indian Men and Women squads for the South Asian Games 2019, it can be positively predicted that the Indian teams will manage to add gold medals yet again.

This is also due to the fact that despite having a young men's squad, the competition at the South Asian Games 2019 isn't as tough as the Asian Games or the World Cup with the heavyweight sides Iran and South Korea not a part of the South Asian Games.
