What's the story?

A shocking incident took place in Muzaffarnagar on Friday after a kabaddi player from Haryana surrendered in court owing to a dowry harassment case slammed on him.

Abhishek Deshwal, who hails from Haryana, is currently married in Pinna village in Uttar Pradesh, had a case filed against him there earlier.

In case you didn't know

This is not the first time a kabaddi player has been arrested for some distressing crimes. There have been earlier instances when state and national level players came under the scanner in previous years for crimes such as murder and smuggling.

Two Pro Kabaddi League stars have also previously been in the news for the wrong reasons. Kashiling Adake, who has featured for Dabang Delhi and U Mumba in the PKL, was produced in court after complaints of alleged rape from a woman.

The biggest controversy came when Bengaluru Bulls and Indian national team star Rohit Kumar was arrested last year after his wife committed suicide and alleged that she was harassed by the raider and his family.

The heart of the matter

Deshwal is a state-level kabaddi player and was produced in court after the case was filed against him. He surrendered in front of the judge but was later released on interim bail.

The Acting Chief Judicial Magistrate Piyush Siddhartha released the player after the furnishing of a bail bond, which had two sureties of Rs 25,000 up to January 9 next year.
