Alex Hales (Player of the Match): It was an all-round performance. The way we batted and then defended the total was amazing. We though that Warner and Stoinis were taking the game away from us but it was great to come back into the game. Playing with Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash has helped me play on these surfaces

Jos Buttler (England Captain): It was a great game of cricket and it was good to finish on the good side of things. They played really well and put us under pressure. In these conditions, it is important to pick up wickets which is what Wood and Curran did. (on Wade obstructing play) I was looking at the ball and hence didn't notice much, would've been different if it was a World Cup game. Alex has a fantastic record as an open in Australia, Phil Salt did well too but we felt that Hales was the right man for us to open the innings in Australia and later in the World Cup

Aaron Finch (Australia captain): Nathan Ellis was a positive for us. On a track conducive for the batters, he bowled really well. It was a bit disappointing to lose as we were placed comfortably at one stage and could've won the match. Ellis has been a fantastic player and has delivered on the big stage whenever he has been presented with the opportunity. Wanted to give Green more opportunities at the top of the order, will move to opening the game in the next couple of matches

England win by 8 runs and take the series lead 1-0

A complete all-around performance from this English as they win the match and take the lead in the series. They started it with their onslaught with the bat in hand and then managed to get wickets at regular intervals to turn the game in their favour.

It didn't start particularly well for Australia as they lost the wicket of Cameron Green early in the chase. David Warner and Mitchell Marsh added a foundation to the chase and got a good partnership. Marsh was dismissed and soon after was Finch but nothing stopped David Warner, as he got to his 24th T20I 50.

Marcus Stoinis joined the party and played the role of an aggressor in the chase when Warner was slowing down. Stoinis was dismissed and so was Tim David, but Matthew Wade brought his experience to the fore, starting a bit sedately and then looking to take the attack to the bowlers. Wade was dismissed in the last over, with England sealing the win by restricting the hosts to 200/9 after their 20 overs.

It was an excellent bowling show from the English bowlers as they manages to pull the game back into their favour. Mark Wood and Sam Curran picked up 3 wickets each as they managed to pick up the big fishes and kill the chase before it went into the decisive moments.

Aiding them were Reece Topley, who picked up two wickets, and Adil Rashid, becoming the only spinner to pick up a wicket in this contest. Let's now go down and see what the captains have to say.

19.4 Sam Curran to Kane Richardson, IS THAT OUT? Back of a length delivery on leg stump that hurtles onto the batter. Richardson has a swipe across the line and seems to glove it tamely to short third man. Well, that is not what the umpire thinks, though, who shakes his head. England review immediately, and as it turns out, the ball came off the back shoulder. Nothing on Hot Spot and with Real-Time Snicko not available, the third umpire asks the on-field umpire to stay with his decision!

19.3 Sam Curran to Matthew Wade, OUT! IS THAT THE GAME? Back of a length delivery on middle and off stump that bounces a tad extra, and might have stuck in the surface as well. Wade tries swing it over deep mid wicket but the lack of pace, plus the bounce means that he can't clear Stokes on the deep mid wicket fence. Wade is dejected, and you feel this could be the final nail in Australia's coffin today!
