Commentary

Right then. Two points on the board for Australia as they move level on points with New Zealand but are still significantly behind on their net run rate. There's more action from this group coming your way tomorrow with Afghanistan taking on Sri Lanka before the big headline clash as England take on New Zealand. Plenty riding on both of those games tomorrow but that's all we have from this contest. This has been Pratyush Rohra in the company of Mohul Bhowmick. We hope you enjoyed our coverage. Ta-ta!

Aaron Finch (Australian captain): Getting 180 was a good score on that wicket. We knew we had to lay the foundation early and couldn't pull the trigger and risk being 4 or 5 down at the 12-13th over mark, because you then might leave yourself a little bit short. We did well to get there. (Issue with Tim David) A bit of hamstring tightness. It was a precaution more than anything else. (Bowling) It's nice when it works like that. It doesn't always happen. There's a lot of planning that goes into it and sometimes it just goes out of the window and you make your own. Sometimes it looks great and sometimes it looks stupid. You take the good with the bad in this game as a captain. (Eng vs NZ) Of course, we'll have an eye out. It's a big game for both teams. It would have been nice from 5/25 to push that forward but they played brilliantly through that middle part of the innings. Tucker played a hell of a knock there.

Andrew Balbirne (Ireland captain): It was hard fought, certainly in the first innings. It could have got away from us but we bowled pretty well but a couple of overs didn't go our way. We obviously didn't get the start we wanted with the bat but the way he put up a fight in the end, showed that if we can keep making progress, we can keep taking on these big teams and give ourselves a chance. (Tucker's innings) Looking at the scoreboard, we felt that the score wasn't against us. The wickets column was clearly a problem but if someone could have stayed in with Lorcan, who knows? He's had a really good World Cup. These kinds of wickets suit him. We've got another game on Friday and hopefully, he can continue that.

Aaron Finch, Player of the Match: It was a slowish surface and they changed their lengths really well. We did well to score as many as we did, pleased that the boys were able to set themselves up nicely. It was that sort of a surface where you couldn't just come out and swing from ball one. It seems like a hamstring twinge (speaking about his injury). I'll get a scan tomorrow and see what the results show. Unfortunately, I have got a history of them, but let's see what happens. We're ready for Afghanistan on Friday; confident of taking them on.

After a run of close games we've finally had a rare one-sided contest in this tournament. The hosts certainly won't be complaining, though, bagging the crucial two points to keep their campaign alive and also give their net run rate a significant boost (still not enough to better England's though).

It wasn't the best of batting performances but they ticked a few boxes along the way. Aaron Finch's return amongst the runs will be a welcome one with Stoinis, Marsh, and Maxwell continuing to show their hitting prowess, which helped the team post a solid total on the board despite a sluggish start.

However, they were lethal with the ball in hand. After a couple of wayward overs, the Australian bowlers hunted in packs to dismantle the Irish batting unit. Cummins got the ball rolling with Maxwell following suite with a double whammy in his first over. Starc didn't stay too far behind either, making the new ball talk in his first spell to bag a couple of wickets to have Ireland reeling at 25-5.

The result was pretty much a given from there on but Lorcan Tucker's performance deserves a special mention. He fought like a lone warrior and recorded his best score in this tournament, remaining unbeaten at 71 as the rest of the bowling unit crumbled around him.

Zampa and Stoinis chipped in with a few wickets in the middle but Hazlewood endured a rare wicketless outing. Overall, though, Australia were clearly the better side and the gulf between the two sides showed on a few occasions, making all the difference. Stick around for what the captains have to say after this one at the presentations.

And that will be that. Job done for Australia. Handshakes all around as the hosts manage to bag the two crucial points to keep their tournament alive.
