That's it from this Test then! England go to the Oval 2-0 up, full of confidence and vigor. Sri Lanka just look a bit tired, which happens when you can't turn games like this around. They'd need to be much better to avoid a clean sweep, starting with the toss (if DDS wins again) and then making sure they take up the big moments with consistency and energy. Ollie Pope (England captain): I won't say so (if it's easy), no. Really big contributions from everyone. Really happy to be 2-0 up. Onto the Oval. This week was very different than the last Test. You are always in the game with the slope. Lucky to have Rooty play like that. They (reviews) are not going my way! But I'd rather keep taking them. Gus was a stand-out. He was the guy who'd be spoken about. Even Atkinson and Potts played really well. Credit to those guys, they take their batting seriously and changed the game for us. We knew the pitch was getting worse. It was important for the bowlers to have some rest. We gave spin a crack, maybe we could have tried a bit more with the spin. But we knew the new ball was essential. Always special to go back to the Oval. It'd be a good week.
Dhananjaya de Silva (Sri Lankan captain): Well we had two days to bat. Message to bat simple and bat long. They were always putting pressure back on us. We brought it back a bit but it wasn't good enough. Well I could have batted first but our top order was struggling so wanted to give them a breather and allow them to get into the match. I have to speak with the coach and the management. Kamindu has been awesome in every innings he has played. He is getting runs so that's a big positive thing. Well as I said earlier, we have to do better to get a win in England. We have to be at our best and have to better our performance in all three departments.
Gus Atkinson is the Player of the Match, here is what he had to say: I think but of both. I couldn't have asked for more getting my name on both honours board. It was an honour to bat with Root. He was exceptional. My parents had a great week. I am not really sure. It's my first red ball game here and it has gone really well. I enjoy the slope here. I will do what they say. I just think, the way we go about the game it's to attack. As bowlers, it's good to keep attacking but it's demanding to run in over after over.

Sri Lanka's Lord's hoodoo would extend further then. They didn't lose here since 1991 but they haven't won here in forever. England, meanwhile, have been brilliant throughout the summer and with the new reinforcements that have performed here, their Ashes hopes are slowly getting better.

If historians stumble upon this Test in the future, let them remember it as the Root and Atkinson Lord's Test. One with the bat, the other with the ball, and both with their edges and dropped catches have given so many memories and made it worth watching. Sri Lanka have fought and fought but fight isn't enough against England away from home, you really need consistent spells of good performances as a team which have never been there.
Root and Atkinson deservedly lead the team to the dugout. Sri Lanka just stomped on the axe with the toss and both Root and Atkinson scored centuries in the first innings to all but kill the game. Sri Lanka never recovered from the bowling shock, and apart from Kamindu Mendis, almost everyone crumbled for next to nothing on the board.
Second innings was more competitive but Root with another purple century didn't let the visitors come back into the game. Three Sri Lankans scored half-centuries but none could convert it into a big knock -- which was still possible because the pitch was mostly flat -- and Atkinson ate up on their lack of confidence with his skill to finish things off.
We'll go to the Oval for rubber that's already in its funeral. But some young Sri Lankans and England's penchant to "entertain" should keep us interested!
86.4 Chris Woakes to Lahiru Kumara, WICKET! England win by 190 runs. That was a fullish-length delivery from Woakes, around the middle stump and maybe Woakes rolled his fingers over that. Tries to launch this down the ground, doesn't anywhere close to the contact he was after. From the bottom half of the bat and balloons up in the air and Olly Stone tracks back five yards from mid-on and takes the catch comfortably.

What a match Gut Atkinson is having, a century in the first innings and now a fifer in the second innings. On a length angling across the left-hander, he goes flashing at that and ends up getting an under edge which has been safely pouched by Jamie Smith behind the stumps.
