Commentary

That is all we have from the commentary box for this CPL encounter. We have a break tomorrow with the Qualifier 2 coming up on 23rd September. Up until then, its's good bye from myself (Arya Sekhar Chakraborty) and fellow commentator and good mate Sooryanarayan Sesha.

Kieron Pollard: I think proper planning made the difference. The full coaching staff planned for this game and we have come out on top. I don't want to single out anybody. We have given opportunities to the bowling unit entirely. Won't single out any specific bowler. It was a team effort. We knew that if we bat sensibly we would chase it down. They were at least 20-25 less than a par score. Chadwick got a chance today and played brilliantly. We have sit and planned with the support staff which worked wonders for us. We haven't thought about it as yet. We have been playing really good cricket. Next 24 hours is basking on our glory. The fans have been everywhere and they have got an opportunity to fit between. Thankyou to support and hopefully we could continue putting smiles on their faces.

Romario Shepherd (standing in for injured Warriors captain Imran Tahir): They bowled well in the powerplay. They had a great start and we were 20 runs short. A few chances went down. You never what could have happened. (Why didn't Odean Smith bowl?) The captain decided to leave him out of the bowling today. Just happens sometimes with the wet outfield and stuff like that. We are feeling confident about the next game against Jamaica. We are very confident about ourselves.

Chadwick Walton is the Player of the Match for his unbeaten knock of 79. Here's what he has to say: I would like to say thanks to the coach and the players for having the confidence in me. It's a big game but it's just another game. We just tried to get the win and send out a message. It's been an emotional half-century. It's been a while since I've got a half-century in the CPL. Kudos to the guys for having faith in me. It doesn't get any better except if we win the finals - then it will get better.

That turned out to be a rather one sided contest in the end, as the Trinbago Knight Riders made light work of the target of 167 set by the Guyana Amazon Warriors. They eventually won comprehensively by 7 wickets with 11 deliveries to spare. The opening duo of Chadwick Walton and Mark Deyal got them off to a flying start which set the platform for a massive win. They raced off to 41 in the 5th over with both batters going berserk. The wicket meant Nicholas Pooran came out in the middle with some exceptional shots.

Pooran and Pollard eventually made sure that the target is well within control. It was Walton who turned it on during the last couple overs of the game. He started off cautiously and once he realised that the target was within touching distance, he smashed a few sixes. A couple of meaty blow followed by some lusty blows from Pollard. Dwaine Pretorius was the pick of the bowlers, bagging 2 wickets for 36 runs.

18.1 Imran Tahir to Chadwick Walton, THAT IS THAT! Down in the dumps last year but into the final this year! A fabulous redemption story for the Knights and they're just one more win away now from lifting a record fifth title. Googly on a back of a length radar at the stumps. Walton hangs back to ease his punch down to long on as he waltzes over for the winning run. It's been that easy for him and his team through what has been a clinical run chase. Trinbago Knight Riders win by 7 wickets and qualify for the final of CPL 2023! The Amazon Warriors go again on Friday in Qualifier 2!

The match has moved to the penultimate over with TKR just needing one more to win.

Pollard was trying to finish it off quickly and perished in that attempt. Just 9 more runs required and Andre Russell will look to finish it off.

17.2 Dwaine Pretorius to Kieron Pollard, DRAGGED ON! An agricultural swing across the line this time off a full-ish length outside the off stump. Pollard doesn't hold his shape though and ends up dragging it back onto the stumps with the poles lighting up. A handy cameo though from the skipper and he's done his job for his team.

That was a massive over for the Guyana Amazon Warriors and that has made the final result of the game a mere formality. Some very good batting by Chadwick Walton. He started off slowly but now he is flexing his muscles, realising that it's highly unlikely that his team can lose this game.
