There would be areas where both sides will be looking to improve in the larger context. A lot of England batters got starts, but did not make it big. A score closer to 350 runs was on the offer and that would have made it a closer game. There will also be some discussions about the team selection. On the other hand, India would want their middle-order to ensure that they don't give even a whiff when the side is on top. Plenty to ponder before they get set for the final ODI of the series.

Rohit Sharma (India captain & Player of the Match): It was good, really enjoyed being out there, scoring runs for the team. Important game, series on the line. Broke it down to pieces about how I wanted to bat. It's longer than T20 cricket, but shorter than Tests. Needed to assess and break the innings down to pieces. It was important for batters who are set to bat as deep as possible. Looking at the pitch, when you play on black soil, it skids on a bit. It's important to show the full face of the bat, especially at the start. They were bowling into the body, trying not to give any room. That's where I prepared my game and tried to access the gaps. Got good support from Gill and Shreyas. We enjoy looking at each other. Gill is a classy player. I have seen him in close quarters, doesn't seem to be overawed by the situations. The numbers are there. He is just classy to watch from the other end. The game can go either side in the middle. If you manage and squeeze in those middle overs, you need not worry much about the death. In both the games, we squeezed in and got wickets in the middle. It was important to keep taking wickets. If you do that, it's not easy to keep scoring. We want to keep getting better as a team. There is noting specific that we want to work on. Just keep getting better as a team. As long as guys are clear about what they are supposed to do, if they keep doing that not much to think about.

Jos Buttler (England captain): 'We did a get to a lot of good positions. Some players to catch on and get us to 350 runs. Rohit played a fantastic knock and put us in a lot of pressure. He has been doing it for some time in ODIs. Looking at the wicket, we wanted to get runs on the board. Maybe skidded on a bit under the lights. Two guys at the top did fantastically well. We needed to get to 330-350 runs, that might have been defendable. Keep making stapes in the right direction. Results aren't there but we want to keep the players at the task."

Shubhman Gill speaks to the host broadcaster. Here is what he has to say: "I was feeling good out there today. And with Rohit bhai, he makes it easier for you. The way he dominated the fast bowlers was a treat to watch from the non-striker's end. It was a good pitch to bat on. The odd ball was skidding on. But overall, it was a very good pitch. The chat between us was simple. We tried to keep things simple and went after the ball that was there to be hit."

09:45 p.m. IST: It was a Rohit Sharma show, wasn't it? 305 runs wasn't a small total to chase down by any stretch of imagination. But the Indian skipper came out like a man who is possessed and hunted the England bowlers down. He looked in supreme touch right from the word go and never put a foot wrong until he notched up his century.

The new ball was crucial on this track for the batters to capitalize. And the Indian opening pair ensured that they got the team off to the perfect start. While Rohit Sharma was going in full flow at one end, Shubman Gill eased into his innings at the other end. He was timing the ball sweetly and played the perfect foil to Rohit Sharma's counterattacking innings. They put on 136 runs before Gus Atkinson bowled a superb yorker to remove Gill's off-stump.

Virat Kohli had a short stay in the middle, edging one through to the keeper off Adil Rashid. Shreyas Iyer came in at number 4 and once again played a crucial knock taking the team to a comfortable position in the chase. With the way India lost wickets towards the end, his partnership of 70 runs with Rohit Sharma ended up being a crucial one.

India got home comfortably in the end, but the skipper won't be happy with the way they kind of lost their way in the end. There was a flurry of soft dismissals, starting with the runout of Shreyas Iyer. Axar Patel played a steady hand at one end and ensured that there was no slip up.

There would be some questions on England's team selection. There was plenty of turn on the surface, but they did not have enough options in the spin department to take advantage. Adil Rashid had one of his rare off days, conceding 78 runs in his spell. Liam Livingstone was probably the pick of the bowlers, conceding just 29 runs in his 7 overs while the other bowlers went around the park. England were never really in the game in the second innings except when India gave them some quick wickets towards the end.
