Commentary

After a busy month and a half of action packed action, for the first time there will be a break of a couple of days before the semi final clash on the 15th. The second semi final will be played between South Africa and Australia at the Eden Gardens on the 16th. Like always, it was a pleasure bringing all the live coverage from this encounter. So that's another comprehensive win for India ahead of the semi-final. They have been by far the best team of the tournament but can they go past the semi final hurdle this time? They will definitely start as the clear favorites but the pressure will certainly be on the Men in Blue to deliver especially in the manner, they have performed in the tournament. The bowling attack was tested a bit bit the batters will be overjoyed going into the semis. They have been clinical in all three departments of the game but the fielding effort wasn't spot on today. They will now move to Mumbai, the venue for their semi final clash against New Zealand which will be played on Wednesday (November 15).

Netherlands on the other hands did well to win a couple of games but overall, they should be disappointed with their defeats and have also squandered the opportunity to play in the Champions Trophy. The captain Scott Edwards has led from the front. He has been a terrific captain besides holding the innings together and also being a terrific gloveman. Wins against South Africa and Bangladesh showed what they are capable of but alas it was a bridge too steep to climb for them as they finished with only two wins from nine games.

Rohit Sharma (India captain): I mean look honestly, since we started the tournament, for us it was always playing one game at a time. This is a big tournament and it was important to break it for us. You play in different venues and conditions and you need to adapt and we did that very well. I mean, you know very pleased with how we have played in the nine games. Very clinical from game one till today because different individuals have stepped up and said I am the one who will do the job today. Although, we play a lot of cricket in India but when you play different operations in different conditions, that is when it becomes difficult. It's important, the results do matter to keep the dressing room environment healthy. We are playing the World Cup at home so expectations will be there but we wanted to play the game on the field with a lot of excitement and that has reflected in their performance. When the atmosphere is light, the players tend to play better. It is always something in our minds. When we have five options, it always good to have a few other options. The seamers going and bowling the wide yorkers just to test themselves out.

Scott Edwards (Netherlands captain): We played really two good games of cricket, but we gave ourselves opportunities in other games which we would've liked to win but it's a bit tricky one where we wanted to be compared to where we are. Pretty confident with the start we got, it was always a tough tournament against all the tough team and when you are up with India, they are as good a side as there is, lot to learn and we need to gear up for the T20 World Cup next year. I think they showed pure class with the bat, plenty to learn of that. I thought there were periods we bowled well and they just soaked up the pressure, if you are only three down with 10 overs to go, you are going to make runs and an extremely hard team to beat in the tournament. We're a young side still, it's about growth for us and we got some training camps coming up, in terms of fixtures, not really sure.

Shreyas Iyer is the Player of the Match! Here's what he has to say: I kind of got a deja vu, happened against Australia, threw my wicket away when I came but this time I wanted to ensure I go big and the pill that I took helped me kick in, waited for the pain to go. Yes, definitely not easy to do, that's the fun part, I feel I got the scores that I got, it boosted my confidence. The wicket was a bit two faced, I just wanted to gauge and then capitalized later. It wasn't a gift, has been working hard for that shots in the nets and then domestic games as well, targeting to hit straight as much as possible, keep my head down and that kind of helped me to get into good position, and after that it's just the follow through with the bat and finish it off on my shoulders, that's what I keep in mind always.

It turned out to be another dominating performance from Team India as they kept their unbeaten run intact in the group stages after thrashing the Netherlands by runs. The fast bowlers were tested a bit and for the first time in the tournament, Mohammed Shami went wicketless. Jasprit Bumrah continued his exceptional work both with the new ball and the old ball but Shami and Siraj had a tough day in the office. The target of 411 was never going to be chased down by the Dutch but they at least wanted to give a good account of themselves.

The opening duo of Wesley Barresi and Max O'Dowd came out in the middle and tried to take on the Indian new ball bowlers. Barresi was dismissed early as he under edge to a good length delivery from Mohammed Siraj brought about his departure. Colin Ackermann and Max O'Dowd began brilliantly with a flurry of boundaries as the ball was not doing anything for Siraj and Mohammed Shami. They struck some gorgeous shots en route to their useful knocks 30 and 35 respectively and shared a good stand to lay the foundation for the Dutch.

However, the introduction of the spinners totally tilted the scales in favor of India. Kuldeep Yadav made the breakthrough as he trapped Ackermann right in front of the stumps before Ravindra Jadeja knocked off Max O'Dowd with a peach on his very first delivery. Their were useful contributions in the middle order with Sybrand Engelbrecht Scott Edwards trying to resurrect the innings. Jadeja and Kuldeep bowler beautifully in the middle overs which didn't allow the Dutch batters to get the boundaries.

The faster bowlers hardly got any help from the surface but Mohammed Siraj came back strong in his second spell to send back Engelbrecht before Jasprit Bumrah castled Logan van Beek with a special yorker. Roelof van Merwe came out all guns blazing and struck a couple of sixes during his quickfire cameo. Rohit tried out as many as eight bowling options today including himself, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav.

Kohli got the wicket of the opposition skipper Scott Edwards as he glove a leg sidish delivery straight to KL Rahul. Another comprehensive performance from the Indians and their batting line up will be very confident going into the final four. Rohit Sharma continued his good work while Virat Kohli again scored a half-century. However, the difference today was the knocks of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul who scored blistering centuries to take their side to a score of 410. In the bowling department, Bumrah, Siraj, Kuldeep and Ravindra Jadeja were the pick of the Indian bowlers, bagging two apiece.

Rohit Sharma has a wicket as India keeps their winning streak intact. Their longest streak in a World Cup as they thrash the Dutch by 160 runs. Captain getting into the wickets column after bowling for the first time since 2016. Rohit Sharma celebrating the wicket as India smash yet another opposition with so much ease and confidence. They were a bit sloppy in the field but take nothing away from their performance all through the group stage.

Rohit has a wicket to his name as well as India march on to the semi-finals to face off New Zealand next Wednesday. Floated the length delivery, just outside the off-stump. Nidamanuru reaches for a wild slog and miscued it straight down the throat of Shami who makes no mistake.
