Test cricket just keeps delivering, doesn't it? Who would have thought that India would be bowled out for 46 in the 1st innings in Bengaluru? Who would have thought that after conceding a 356-run lead, India would fight back to take the lead, only 3 wickets down? And just when we thought that India were running away with it, New Zealand, through their pacers, brought the Blackcaps back into the contest again! Finally, under some pressure, against a potent bowling attack, the visitors were able to hold their own and knock off the winning runs! Now, the action turns to Pune for the 2nd Test! Do India comeback in the series, or do New Zealand seal the series there? We'll see, when we join you on the morning of October 24! The Indian fans are obviously disappointed with the result and so, have vented out their frustration on social media. Here are some of the reactions.

"Rohit Sharma captaincy nothing without Jasprit Bumrah" - Fans fume as New Zealand run away with the chase in 1st Test against India

Rachin Ravindra [134(157) and 39*(46)] is the Player of the Match! He says, "It is a nice city, nice wicket to bat on, so, I can say that the odds are in my favour! I guess my style of play and my preparation, both have had a hand in this performance. Having played a few games before coming here in sub-continental conditions definitely helped. I like to be in good positions while batting, not necessarily attack too much. I love the support of this crowd and it's great to play in front of friends and family too!"

Tom Latham [New Zealand captain]: We were actually going to bat first as well, so, it was a good toss to win! Our bowlers hit the right areas for a long time and got the job done. India put us under pressure in their second innings but our seam bowlers came back again to get it back our way. Oh we definitely did not think that we finished it when we bowled India out for 46! They are a top side, especially in these conditions and they showed that. But we were up to the task. William O'Rourke and Rachin Ravindra were indeed standouts, but Tim Southee's contributions with both and ball cannot be overlooked. Rachin, well, we're happy that he is on our side. He settled the nerves today as well and batted exquisitely in the first innings!

Rohit Sharma [India Captain]: It was a good effort with the bat in the second innings. We didn't bat well in the first innings. So we knew what lied ahead. A couple of guys stood out. When you are 350 runs behind. You can't think too much about it. You have to play the ball. It was a great effort. Something, we as a team are very proud of. When Sarfaraz and Pant are batting, we are all at the edge of our seats. It was a matured innings from Pant. Defended the good balls. Then, played his shots. Not to forget Sarfaraz, who showed great maturity. He was very clear about the kind of shots that he wanted to play. (On the first innings collapse) We knew it was going to be challenging with overcast conditions and pitch being a bit sticky. But I did not expect that we will be bowled out for under 50. Credit to New Zealand. They challenged every corner of our bat. We have the guys who know how to bounce back. We lost the first Test against England and then won the series.

The session began after a slight rain delay with a wicket off the second ball and New Zealand were not on the board at that point! Tom Latham dismissed for a duck by Jasprit Bumrah meant that India were at it, straightaway, forcing a famous comeback-from-behind win!

But even after quite a few plays and misses, Will Young kept his nerve and held fort for a long time. Devon Conway never looked convincing, but got himself going with a few singles and three boundaries. Those eased the nerves even more!

However, Bumrah was not done. He went round the wicket, trapped Conway in front and kept India's hopes alive. India were sensing more blood, when Rachin Ravindra walked out to the crease.

What followed, was a match-winning partnership of over 50 runs, first to neutralize every threat and then, bat with a lot of conviction and authority against both pace and spin!

Young finished only two runs short of his half-century, Ravindra scored a brisk 39, filled with 6 fours! The duo took away every little chance India had of doing something special and steered the Blackcaps to their 4th Test win on Indian soil!

The pitch did behave trickily for the batters. There was up-and-down bounce, there was turn on offer and there was a strong bowling attack to contend with. And, New Zealand countered all that!

Ashwin's late introduction to the bowling crease raised a few eyebrows, but whether that was Rohit Sharma not having much confidence in his bowling for sure reason, or some fitness-related issue, is not clear as of now.

The sun kept playing hide-and-seek, but Tom Latham's team wasted little time in knocking the runs off before Lunch! New captaincy role for Latham, and success straightaway! It could not get any better for a fine, fine Test side, here in lovely Bengaluru!

New Zealand can be really, really proud of this performance! What a win this is! Now, they have a definite chance of winning a historic series in India!
