Commentary

So that concludes our coverage of this match as well as this series. Packed crowds, exciting see-saw battles and quality cricket all round - it was quite the spectacle alright! In the absence of Alyssa Healy, stand-in skipper Tahlia McGrath has led the Aussies brilliantly today, as well as in the last game. And she will collect the series trophy before the whole team poses with it. Healy is there too with her team as she gets her hand on the trophy. This is a tight-knit unit and it reflects in the way they click in unison on the team. They just breathe professionalism and despite the absence of regular skipper Meg Lanning, they have once again shown the world just why they are one of the greatest teams to have graced sport in general.

India fought hard. 4-1 might not be a fair reflection of the same having come so close in the 3rd and 4th T20Is. But they were completely outplayed today after a point. They have positives aplenty to drive home from this series but they will know that if they are to beat the Australians at the T20 World Cup, they will need to up their game even further.

Tahlia McGrath (Australia Captain): Fierce battle. We love the challenge. It's always a very entertaining, high-standard of cricket and this series had that. It was pretty good to watch - everyone who strides out to the wicket plays their role. Ashleigh and Grace put on an absolute clinic. We really pride ourselves on our fearless cricket and we did that today. I think that's what got us over the line - to take the game heads on. It was incredible - the crowds were the best thing about the series. India came really hard at us. We expect that (big crowds) when we come here and we've been very well looked after.

Ashleigh Gardner is the Player of the Match for her all-round performance with the bat and ball, 66(32) and 2-20 and she's also the Player of the Series! 7 wickets and a 115 runs in the series! Here's what she has to say: I'm just enjoying my cricket more than anything, reaping the benefits on the field and I'm enjoying life outside the cricket and it's the reflection on the field. It's easy batting with someone like Grace, she takes all the pressure off me, she's a power hitter and I've just enjoyed the cricket last 12 months. Bit of both but I can't really chose, depends on the day, I don't have a choice to be honest, sometimes it goes both your ways. Sometimes when you're out of form, I've tried not to do too much, just like to time the ball but range hitting is good, less is more.

Harmanpreet Kaur (India Captain): I think we were really good in the first 10-12 overs. We know the kind of power they have. Unfortunately we were not able to bowl what we wanted to. When Australia came (for this series) we knew the kind of cricket they would play. Really happy that we've improved on a lot of areas. Lot of things we've learnt from them, especially the way they chase. That is also something we want to introduce in our batting lineup. Earlier, when we were not in the game at the start, we used to lose hope. But now the belief is there that anyone can win the game for us and that is reflecting in the side. We would like to train very hard. We have a tri-series before the World Cup and want to get ready for that.

Heather Graham: (About the mayhem and then the hat-trick of hers) I'm actually not too sure, our bowlers at the top got us off to a really good start, the way Grace and Ash batting as phenomenal and set us up for this win. I think the way the wicket played, while we were batting, it took a bit of turn, I used my slower balls to good effect, pretty fortunate to pick up the hat-trick. I actually didn't realize until Ash mentioned, bowled too many odd pace balls and went with the pace, it worked. This is massive, special given that the World Cup around the corner, two captains lead us brilliantly, for us to be able to come out her and put in the dominant performance, coaching staff has been able to work with everyone and it's been really good, gives us the momentum into the Pakistan series. Harris does back at home, not very good to bowl at her when she is in that kind of form.

Australia were tested to the hilt in the last couple of games and they held their nerve to come out on the right side of the result. None of the sort today though - they absolutely bossed this contest to rub a stamp that reads authority all the way. Of course, it was a challenge initially with the bat but once Grace Harris and Ashleigh Gardner powered them along to a gargantuan total, there was simply no looking back.

The chase never got going for the Women in Blue. Smriti Mandhana endured another low score and fell in rather tame fashion while Shafali Verma followed soon after. Harleen Deol, batting at number 3, sparkled intermittently until a chaotic mix-up saw her fall short of her crease. It was a poetic summary of what was going wrong for the Indians with the bat in hand, and it all came crashing down with regular wickets.

Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa Ghosh promised a lot but didn't kick on. The Australian bowlers must be given due credit with everyone who was tossed the ball doing the needful. Darcie Brown bowled with pace and purpose, Alana King kept it tight and Ashleigh Gardner did what she does best in keeping it simple and prizing out a couple of wickets along the way. Heather Graham found herself on a hat-trick and didn't have a shot at it until the start of the final over. She breached the defense of Renuka Singh to cap it off however, finishing with four wickets off her two overs.

There was a big positive though for India in the form of Deepti Sharma. She didn't get off the blocks straightaway but picked up pace as she pierced the gaps beautifully along the leg-side in a great display of smart hitting. That is something the Indians will take with both hands as they build towards the T20 World Cup. Having said that, they will be left disappointed at not dominating the contest for good yet again when they had the chance to do so. Stick around for the presentation ceremony...

A superb half-century for Deepti Sharma but she falls off the final delivery. A poetic end to a dominant victory by the Australians. They have shown just why they remain a cut above the rest in the world. Australia win the series 4-1!
