Commentary

Right then, another hammering for Ireland and they go down to a red-hot South African unit who have taken this series already. The final game will be at the same venue on Monday with a possible clean sweep in the offering for the Proteas and a lot of pride at stake for Ireland. We will be there as always to bring you all the action. For now, this is Sourabh and Rajarshi taking your leave, good night!

Temba Bavuma (South Africa captain): Little bit sore (about his arm). We will get to know in the next couple of days. I think it was very mature (the batting performance), very clinical as well. We spoke about not losing wickets in the first 10 when the ball swings, I think we did that. The guys that came in, Stubbs, Verreynne played really well, took it deep and then a good finish in the end. The guys have put their hands up and showed what they can do, I think that is what the Afghanistan series was about as well. We want to have depth in our squad, it adds pressure on the incumbent players as well.

Paul Stirling (Ireland captain): It was a tough day at the office. McBrine bowled really well, 10 overs for 40 but it was really tough work other than that. Once more, we did not take wickets in the middle overs. I don't think our processes have changed. We have got a couple of days off and then we have got to pick ourselves up and come back on Monday. We are playing such a good side like South Africa and we want to make sure that our energy levels are good.

Tristan Stubbs (Player of the match): I thought that in the first game, myself and Reeza got out successively. So today it was a conscious effort to not do that. They bowled quite well, they managed to get us to hit to the big side but we rotated the strike well. The wicket was a bit slow

Lizaad Williams, Impact Player Of The Match: It does feel a bit downhill (the northern side of the ground). More energy to put towards the batsman. Happy that I could contribute to the team. Not to him, but my emotions did get a bit high (on approach RVD for the five-for) was aiming for five when I got the third. (The celebration) Lebron James is my sporting idol, and its his celebration. It's called The Silencer. I'm doing it in his honour.

If it was a 129-run victory in the first match it is an even bigger one, a margin of 174 runs, for South Africa as they have once again blown away the Irish unit and have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3-match ODI series.

It did take a bit of time to arrive towards the end but the victory comes as a very sweet one for the Proteas as they have now clinched the series with an all-round clinical performance. They have managed to bundle out Ireland for two modest totals in the space of two days and now have successfully taken the series with one final game to be played.

343 was always going to be a tall task for Ireland, specially at the Sheikh Zayed stadium in Abu Dhabi, it was the highest score at the venue that South Africa had managed on the back of a brilliant maiden ODI century for Tristan Stubbs but Ireland were never in the contest.

It all started in the second over of the chase when Lizaad went through the defenses of Balbirnie for the second time in succession. Stirling followed his opening partner too, in the very next over and the ghosts of the first ODI were back haunting the Irish team once again.

Campher and Tector stuck around for a bit but then Ireland slipped from 44/2 to 50/5 in no time with Lizaad, Ngidi and Baartman sharing the wickets amongst themselves. Wickets kept tumbling post that as every bowler who joined the attack got into the act and picked up at least a wicket. Lizaad got 3, Ngidi and Fortuin got 2 each while the others one apiece.

The lower-order batters did display some application with the bat, they took Ireland past the three-figure mark and reduced the margin of defeat but it was all too little too late for them. In fact, the top-4 individual scores were from numbers 7 or lower, that tells you a story. A special mention to numbers 10 and 11, Hume and Young, who shared a 52-run stand for the final wicket and delayed the inevitable.

30.3 Bjorn Fortuin to Graham Hume, AT LAST! Fortuin takes the final wicket, and South Africa go 2-0 up with a 174-run win! Speared in on a length around middle and off, Hume looked to give himself room and cut, the ball sneaked past the outside edge and clipped the top of the off stump.
