Mumbai Indians won by 10 runs

Right then, the Mumbai Indians have claimed an unlikely victory and they've registered their first points in this edition of the IPL. KKR will be heartbroken after that loss, they played so well and dominated it for about 35 overs and its only in those last 5 overs that they threw the game away. Nonetheless, credit goes to the MI spinners and to Rahul Chahar in particular. He bowled brilliantly tonight and kept his team in the game. He finished with figures of 4-27 from his 4 overs and was deservedly adjudged as the Man of the Match.
Rahul Chahar (Man of the Match): Actually their start was very good and we knew that we spinners had to do our job on this wicket. I've been playing IPL for 2-3 years and I have some experience, I knew that I could get them out. My strength is that I can turn the ball well even when I bowl at around 90kmph. I knew that Nitish Rana would try and charge at me as it was the last ball of the over so I threw a wide flipper at him. It gives a lot of confidence when the team trusts me. Mumbai Indians is such a team that takes care of us even in the off-season.
Rohit Sharma (MI Captain): Yea it was a great fightback considering where the game was at one point when they were batting. Excellent fightback shown by each one in our team. We can take a lot of confidence from this game moving forward. The way KKR started, they batted brilliantly in the first 6 overs. The way Rahul Chahar came and bowled and picking up all those wickets was excellent. Krunal too bowled really well. I can praise the entire bowling unit for their performance. Batting on this track is definitely not easy. A batsman who is set needs to carry on. The trend here is that whenever a new batsman comes in, it becomes difficult to score. You have to plan in your head before you go into bat. To be honest, we were 15-20 runs short. The way we started, we should have done better at the fag end of our innings. But I don't want to take credit away from the boys. (On Suryakumar Yadav) Yea absolutely, he's carrying that form that he had for India. When he plays his shots, it doesn't look like he's taking risks, he plays proper cricketing shots. I'm glad we could get some partnerships and get to a decent total. We just need to learn how to finish the innings off in the last 5 overs.
Trent Boult (MI): Obviously a good feeling to close out a game like that. Just goes to show that you're never out of it. Krunal played a big role in getting us back into the game. I haven't played too much cricket here but our spinners bowled really well and they pulled us back into the chase really nicely. It's never easy to start on a wicket like this so taking a couple of wickets put pressure on them.
Eoin Morgan (KKR Captain): It's disappointing, I think for a lot of the game we played good cricket. There's a couple of things that we did well today and hopefully we can take that forward moving into the tournament. It's disappointing regardless of how you lose, we need to be better at trying to accomplish what we want. Not quite sure, haven't batted long enough towards the death. They've had the wood over us for a long time now, we got into a winning position but we weren't able to get over the line today.
This win is one for the ages! What a comeback that was from the defending champions! They were down and out for the best part of the game, but they found a way to claw their way back into the game to eventually win it! They've shown everybody why they're the most successful team in the history of the IPL and their dominance over KKR continues.

It was KKR's game all along, they bowled brilliantly and restricted Mumbai to a modest total of 153 after winning the toss and even dominated proceedings for the most part whilst they were batting. But somehow, they architected their own destruction after being in a commanding position.

They started off brilliantly with Shubman Gill and Nitish Rana getting off to a flying start. They played some eye catching shots and it looked like they were cruising to victory. Shubman Gill departed after making a 24-ball 33 but Nitish Rana carried on and stroked his way to his 13th IPL fifty.

The equation looked very simple for KKR for the most part even as wickets kept falling at regular intervals at one end. The turning point, however, came at the end of the 15th over when Rahul Chahar managed to dismiss Nitish Rana. Even then, KKR needed just 32 to win from 30 balls with 6 wickets still in hand. But things kept going downhill from thereon as Shakib was dismissed soon after.

The equation read 30 to win from 24 balls after the 16th over. With Russell and Karthik at the crease, it still seemed like KKR were on top. However, Jasprit Bumrah did what he always does best and bowled a fantastic over. Krunal Pandya too stepped up and followed Bumrah up with a top-class over in which he conceded just 3.

That's when the tension started to rise as KKR needed 19 to win from 12. Bumrah came back to bowl the 19th and did an excellent job at that as he conceded just 4 singles. With 15 in the bank, Trent Boult was entrusted with the job to defend it. Boult did a fabulous job and managed to pick up the wickets of Russell and Cummins in back to back deliveries to close the game out.
Over: 20 | Summary: 1 1 W W 2 0 Bowler: Trent Boult Score: 142/7
19.6 Trent Boult to Harbhajan Singh, MUMBAI WIN BY 10 RUNS! They are five time champions, they know how to close out the hard games. This is a performance of a top side and they have come back into this contest from absolutely nowhere and have ended up winning the game by 10 runs at the end, full and outside the off-stump and Harbhajan could not make any contact with that. Game, set and match Mumbai Indians.
19.5 Trent Boult to Harbhajan Singh, JUST OVER! Full ball outside the off-stump, Harbhajan can only loft this one over the mid-off fielder for a couple of runs
Harbhajan Singh, RHB, is the new batsman and he needs to hit 2 sixes just to get it to a super over!
RUBBING SALT INTO THE WOUNDS! The Mumbai Indians have scripted a comeback of monumental proportions!
19.4 Trent Boult to Pat Cummins, OUT! BOWLED! Trent Boult, you beauty. Full and straight at the stumps and it was a little too good for Cummins first up as his stumps are all over the place. Boult on a hat-trick now.
Pat Cummins, RHB, makes his way out to the middle
Dear oh dear! Russell did it with the ball but he can't do it with the bat! It's Mumbai's game to lose now! How quickly things change in this format!
19.3 Trent Boult to Andre Russell, OUT! RUSSELL DEPARTS! Yorked him this time and Russell who closes the bat face early gets a leading edge back to the bowler, the worst result for KKR as DK remains off strike
19.2 Trent Boult to Dinesh Karthik, slower on on a length outside the off-stump, Karthik turns across and taps this one away straight to the fielder at short third. 13 needed from 4 balls
19.1 Trent Boult to Andre Russell, INSIDE EDGE! Short of a length outside the off-stump gets an inside edge past the stumps for a single, pressure on Karthik now. 14 needed now from 5 balls
Trent Boult, left-arm medium fast, will bowl the final over
All of a sudden, Mumbai will feel like they're on top for the first time in this game and it's after 39 overs have been played! Jeez this is turning out to be a real nail-biter! 15 runs are needed from the final over now!
