After two ordinary seasons, Kolkata Knight Riders have really turned the corner this year. They have defeated MI - a team that boasts off a lopsided record against KKR - twice in the season. Also, they become the first team to get a 'Q' against their name on the points table. However, the conversation in the aftermath of this game is likely to revolve around the consistent poor returns of some of the star players from MI. The poor run of form continued for both Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma. India fans would hope that they can turn the tide come the World Cup. Will they be able to do so? The future holds the answers. Varun Chakaravarthy (2/18, Player of the Match): I have never taken Rohit bhai's wicket. The plan was to make him hit across the line. Tactically, me and Sunil Narine are similar but technically we are different. He bowls from the front of his hand. The wickets were too flat initially in the season. But if you ask me, I have been bowling the same till now. Just that the results are showing now.

Shreyas Iyer (Kolkata Knight Riders Captain): Nerves were there going into the game. Boys have been very good at putting their hands up and taking responsibility. We lost the toss but I feel the team which plays the best wins the match. I think it was a tremendous effort to pull things back after their good start. Today was a new day for us. We don't think too much about the stats and the past. (On why he went to Varun and Harshit over Narine and Starc) It is not about who has better records but about who is bowling better on the day. Varun was bowling well in the nets yesterday too. My gut feel went with him.

Since this is KKR's last home game of the season, the entire team - along with the support staff - is doing a lap of honour to thank the crowd.

Andre Russell (Kolkata Knight Riders): We batted first, we know it was a bit sticky and bit in it for the spinners. Coming off the field after 16 overs, there was definitely in it for the bowlers with the bigger side of the boundary. They get off to a good start, we pulled it off brilliantly and the bowlers won it for us. I always enjoy the challenge, he's a fantastic player, 360 player and kept it simple and got the better of him tonight. It's just believing, more cricket you play, the cricket becomes easier and understand the role better and it's working for me, working extremely hard on the fitness and playing the role with the opportunity given to me. I've been doing as much talking as I can, we've got good bunch of youngsters, everyone wants to do well. We always have a group around, this is the love and passion, willing to learn is the trick.

Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians captain): Tough one, yes. As a batting unit, the foundation was quite there, post that we couldn't quite capitalise and build the momentum and that costed us, the wicket was a bit tacky. It was par, given the conditions, I felt the bowlers did well, kept a check on the run flow but eventually it looked like a winning total. Nothing to be very honest, just go out there and enjoy, I don't think we've played enough good cricket this season.

Mumbai Indians started off really well. In fact, at one point, they were motoring along. At the end of the 5-over powerplay, MI seemed to have everything under control. They were 59/0. Ishan Kishan was scoring at 2 runs per ball and the run rate gave a better reading than the required run rate.

But then, Varun Chakaravarthy was summoned. He spun a web around that MI middle order and brought his team back in the contest. He had an able partner to support him from the other end in Sunil Narine. However, it seemed as if MI would still be able to somehow bat through those 7 overs of spin and attack the pacers later on.

However, Andre Russell had other plans. He bowled an excellent spell of 3 overs where he asked questions off every other delivery he sent down. Cameos by Tilak Varma and Naman Dhir, did ignite some hopes for Mumbai towards the end but they looked far from sealing the deal.

Rohit Sharma's scratchy knock of 19 (24) and Hardik Pandya's duck are likely to become the fulcrums of conversation in the aftermath of the game.
