Just 13 balls bowled in what was an annoying few hours for everyone involved. The no-result also means that Australia retain the Chappell-Hadlee trophy. They have a 1-0 lead heading into the third and final T20I which is going to take place here at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui tomorrow itself. Like both the captains, we also hope that we get a game in tomorrow with some much better weather, the radar seems a touch better at least. From here, this is Sourabh Agrawal taking your leave in a bid to see you soon. Cheers!
Michael Bracewell, New Zealand skipper: "We absolutely wanted to play a game tonight the unfortunately the weather didn't play well tonight. We spoke before the game about nailing the plans. Really pleased to see the improvements from a couple of days ago. You always want to start well in a 3-match series and to start with a loss is disappointing. Feel for the guys who missed out, you got a squad for a reason and want to give guys opportunities to play. We thought this was the best chance with the conditions but we will see what happens tomorrow. We just need to make one or two adjustments. Every time we step on to the field, we are proud to represent the country. Obviously we are sad to not win the Chappell-Hadlee trophy but every single game is important for us. We are lucky to have such loyal fans. Hopefully, we can get nice weather tomorrow and a game."
Mitchell Marsh, Australian Captain speaking after the game: "Days like today are always difficult, we tried our best to get a game in for the crowd. Hopefully tomorrow is a good day. The Chappell-Hadlee holds a lot of significance. 1 off 5 in a 9-over game, I've never felt more pressure in my whole career, was about to retire myself (laughs)."
9:54 PM Local Time, 2:24 PM IST: That will be that folks, the match has been called off due to rain. It was inevitable once the rain arrived again and eventually it has had the last say. The players shake hands to signal the abandonment of this game. The umpires had a brief chat with the groundsmen and decided to shut shops as the rain is still falling which means that there is not enough time left now for even a 5-over contest.
9:45 PM Local Time, 2:15 PM IST: We have less than 30 minutes in hand. It is still raining heavily and we are heading towards that announcement that none of us want to hear.
9:41 PM Local Time, 2:11 PM IST: Oh-no! The players are sprinting back as the rain has arrived once more. The groundsmen rush in with the covers, the big ones which is definitely not a positive sign. It is a pretty steady spell of rain this, getting heavier as I type. The square is being covered now, umbrellas are up in the grass banks.
Some people are already making their ways out. We are running out of time quickly and the rain needs to stop quickly if we are to get any further play here. The pictures do not paint a bright picture, looking pretty grim in the middle.
2.1 Ben Sears to Matthew Short, over the wicket, on a length around off, Short pushes that to mid-off and they scamper through for a quick single. The throw from mid-off hits the microphone at the non-striker's end, when have you seen that before?

1.6 Jacob Duffy to Mitchell Marsh, pitched up and swerving away, Marsh uses his long levers to loft that over covers this time. Not entirely out of the middle and it plugs in the outfield, two taken.
1.5 Jacob Duffy to Mitchell Marsh, BANGED IN, that is a sharp bumper from Duffy. Outside off though and Marsh does not bother with it, the height in good.
1.4 Jacob Duffy to Mitchell Marsh, BANG, that is a Mitch Marsh special. Gets one out of the middle finally and it carries the distance. Pitched up and Marsh just extends his hands through it, holds the pose and clear long-off with ease.
1.3 Jacob Duffy to Matthew Short, back of a length and swinging away from off, Short goes with the cross-batted shot and splices it over mid-off. Falls safe for a single

Travis Head has been dismissed for 5 runs off 3 balls
1.2 Jacob Duffy to Travis Head, GONE, that is a big wicket for Duffy. He hits the hard length and shapes it in once more within the stumps. Head still looking to heave it away on the on side slices it towards cover point where Conway takes a good low catch. New Zealand draw first blood.
1.1 Jacob Duffy to Travis Head, STREAKY, that will do for Australia though. On the fuller side swinging in from over the wicket, Head looks for the big old heave by clearing the front leg and gets an inside edge past the keeper for a boundary.
