Mitchell Santner (New Zealand Captain) : "Disappointing to not win. Not the way we wanted to finish the series. Credit to Sri Lanka for the way they bowled at the start of our innings. They got the ball swinging and made it challenging for us by taking some great catches. A lot of positives for us to see the guys performing across different roles which bodes well for us. The lads had stepped up across this white ball tour against Sri Lanka who have a pretty formidable depth."

Charith Asalanka (Sri Lanka Captain): "It is always great to have a comeback like this. Unfortunately, we lost both the series within the first two games but it was a pleasure to watch the boys play like this today. These type of wins help us. Few more areas to work on, especially with the fast bowlers. Credit to the New Zealand team, they put us under pressure in different moments. Thanks to New Zealand cricket for having us, the hospitality was very nice."

The difference that runs on the board can make for any team was pretty evident today. Sri Lanka had their intensity high, accuracy was on the spot and they hardly put a foot wrong. Will Young was dropped in the 3rd ball of the innings as Asalanka couldn't grab an opportunity in the slip cordon.

Thankfully for the visitors, it didn't prove to be an expensive reprieve because the opener departed for an 8 ball duck in only the 2nd over of the chase as Theekshana opened the wickets tally for his side. Asitha Fernando cleaned up Rachin Ravindra with an absolutely amazing in-swinger that reduced the home side to 4 for 2 in the 3rd over.

It was a bowling clinic with the Asian side looking as if they'd pick up a wicket anytime. The first boundary of the chase had to wait till the 4th over of the chase when Chapman cut Theekshana for a couple of boundaries. The first change in bowling happened in the 6th over with Eshan Malinga coming into the attack and dismissing Daryl Mitchell in only his 3rd ball of the day as the hosts got pushed into deeper trouble.

A brilliant catch at backward point by Wanindu Hasaranga made it 21 for 4, with the Sri Lankans ecstatic. Sri Lanka were 23 for 4 in the first ODI, 22 for 4 in the 2nd ODI and then restricted the home side to 21 for 5 in only the 7th over today. The visitors were grabbing sharp catches to make short work of the final ODI where they were out to salvage pride.

New Zealand went from disarray to disaster as Bracewell became the 6th wicket to fall even before they could put up 50 runs on the board.

There was a half century stand between Smith and Chapman but it only delayed the inevitable. Chapman deserves a lot of appreciation for his lone battle but he was left with too much. Presentation to follow shortly.
