From a one-sided game to a humdinger, this has been a perfect series decider. Sri Lanka looked helpless, then fought back hard but in the end, the pedigree of New Zealand helped them to scrape through and get home safely.

New Zealand had the best possible start to the chase as they started off in rollicking fashion, scoring boundaries at will. Chad Bowes couldn't get going and looking to play a release shot skied one high in the air that was caught safely. That didn't deter Tim Seifert, who continued to plonk the ball to all nooks and corners of the park.

Siefert partnered alongside Tom Latham and the duo breezed past the middle overs as if it were a walk in the park. Siefert was watching the ball as big as a football while Latham took his time and then played his shots, picking up boundaries at will. All was going about swimmingly well for them as they needed 43 runs in 30 balls at a point in the game.

But then Theekshana struck and picked up the wicket of Tom Latham with a peach. Pramod Madushan, who was having a poor outing till the 15th over, turned the tide in the visitor's favour as he dismissed Seifert and then bowled and strung a few dot balls together in his 2 spells over.

New Zealand needed 17 runs in 12 balls, which looked like a fairly easy job with Chapman striking a maximum off the first ball of the last over, but then Lahiru Kumara and Sri Lanka picked up 3 wickets in 3 balls. 2 runs were needed in 2 balls and Rachin Ravindra took them home by playing the ball towards deep backward point and securing a 2-1 series win over Sri Lanka.

Kudos to Sri Lanka for their bowling effort. They used only 5 bowlers throughout the game and all 5 of them did a fabulous job of restricting the batters. Lahiru Kumara picked up 3 wickets, whilst Maheesh Theekshana and Pramod Madushan picked up a wicket each. Theekshana with his wily offies got the batters bamboozled, while Madushan, after dropping Bowes in the first over, redeemed himself by bowling an almost match winning second spell

19.5 Lahiru Kumara to Rachin Ravindra, Game, set and match. Back of a length delivery outside off, cut away by Ravindra past the backward point region, enough time to return for a brace and clinch the series for the hosts.

19.4 Lahiru Kumara to Adam Milne, how has Kumara missed that run out chance? On a length outside off, Milne slashes hard but misses, beaten by pace but Ravindra calls him through for a single. The keeper had a chance to run out Ravindra at the batting end, then Kumara had all the time to run out Milne.

19.3 Lahiru Kumara to Daryl Mitchell, WICKET! What a final over this is turning out to be. One more bites the dust and Sri Lanka are well and truly in this. A short of a length delivery bowled at pace by Kumara, just a tad outside off and Mitchell goes for the pull. Ends up ballooning that up in the air from the splice of the bat which has been safely taken by the mid-off fielder. What drama, all three results possible.

19.3 Lahiru Kumara to James Neesham, WICKET! That should be a wicket again. Neesham tries to steal a single but doesn't make it in time and has to trudge back to the pavilion. That was a wide fuller-length delivery well outside off, Neesham flays at that and gets beaten. Tries to scamper through for the bye but a good throw from Kusal Mendis straight to the bowler ensures a run out at the non-striker's end. That has been signalled a wide by the umpire.

19.2 Lahiru Kumara to Mark Chapman, WICKET! There is another twist in the tale. Sri Lanka still hanging on. A quick hard-length delivery from Kumara which hurried Chapman on that occasion, he took a few steps forward and only manages to spoon that straight down the throat of the mid-off fielder. What a match this has been, can Kumara pull off something special?
