And that's that! The third and final test of the series will begin on Friday (17th December) and we'll be here again to bring you all the action from that contest on Sportskeeda. In the meantime, do keep yourselves updated with further cricketing news and action from around the globe on this very platform. Thank you for joining us right through the course of this Test on behalf of the entire team here at Sportskeeda is the duo of Raghav Tikmany and Pratyush Rohra signing off!
England have now won 8 of their last 9 test matches. The newly formed duo of Stokes and McCullum has brought English cricket back to life. Bazball is popularly credited for bringing an aggressive batting approach to English cricket but one thing that has been overlooked is that the bowlers have also been able to pick up 20 wickets on the flattest of surfaces.
Pakistan will need some serious regrouping here while the England camp will be overjoyed after this historic series win. The players will now get an extra day's rest ahead of the third test. Still, plenty to play for in the series as every test match counts for the World Test Championship points.
Ben Stokes (England Captain): The conditions were very different to Pindi. Things happened very differently compared to last week. We saw that the wicket would be tricky to bat on against the slower bowlers. As the game progressed, the cracks opened up and our seamers made the most of the conditions. I think I did not need to bowl here, Jimmy and Robbo did a fantastic job and so did the spinners. Taking a look at the conditions helped us decide what would be a suitable total to defend. Hats off to the lads, they have given their all. Amazing debut for Abrar, he took seven wickets but we were still scoring against him.
Babar Azam: (First innings batting costing them the game) To be honest, yes. We weren't up to the mark in the first innings. There were a couple of soft dismissals and we didn't finish well. We fought back well in the second innings but it wasn't enough in the end. We have a simple plan - to try and carry on the momentum. We had a few good partnerships but we didn't finish well in the end as a batting unit. The tailenders also fought well but it wasn't enough. (Thoughts on Abrar's performance) It was a dream start for Abrar. He used the conditions really well in the first innings and did well in the second one. (Third Test) Definitely looking forward to the Karachi Test. We will do our best there.
Harry Brook is the Player of the Match. Here is what he has to say: I tried to learn from my mistakes in the first innings and not be too aggressive but still put a bit of pressure on the bowlers. (Playing on turners) We knew before coming into the game that it would turn. There was quite a bit of chat around that. We weren't surprised but he just didn't bat as well in the second innings. (Plan in the second innings) We just wanted to get out there and play our brand of cricket. We wanted to put pressure on the bowlers and that paid off.
Match Summary: England beat Pakistan by 26 runs and win the series!
Saud Shakeel 94(213) | Mark Wood 4/65 (21)
What a win, what a win for England! They have travelled to Pakistan after 17 long years and won the series. With this defeat, Pakistan's chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship final look bleak. They lost the toss and were asked to field first. England came out with all guns blazing. They got to a good first innings score owing to decent contributions from Pope and Duckett. Abrar was the only Pakistani bowler who could exploit the conditions.
Pakistan gave away a considerable first innings lead to the visitors. They were off to a great start but once Babar and Saud departed, the hosts capitulated. Leach played a big role in that collapse while the pacers made a decent contribution.
England came out to bat with the same aggressive approach. Harry Brook's century and another vital contribution from Duckett helped England reach 275 and set up a big target of 355. Abrar was once again the pick of the bowlers and only had little support from Zahid.
The target looked impossible but Rizwan and Shafique gave Pakistan a head start. After their partnership was broken, Pakistan faced a mini collapse but Imam and Shakeel regrouped the innings. At one point it seemed like they would chase down this total. Shakeel's partnership with Faheem had taken Pakistan very close to victory. However, they were both dismissed right at the stroke of lunch and England just ran through the tail after the break to win another thriller!
England win the test match and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series!
102.1 Ollie Robinson to Mohammad Ali, EDGED! GONE! Marais Erasmus raises his finger belatedly and Ali reviews it reluctantly. On the good length in the channel outside off with a bit of nip away. The ball might have brushed the top of the front pad on the way. Did it get some bat too? He did! UltraEdge confirms a spike! That's how the cookie crumbles for Pakistan. England win an absolutely thrilling game of Test cricket by 26 runs to seal the series 2-0!

Consecutive boundaries from Salman! He decides to take on the bowler hoping Ali could take on Leach but here's the twist in the tail. Robinson has been given the ball.

101.6 Mark Wood to Agha Salman, FOUR! At the back of a length but it sat up nicely for Salman, who wasn't going to hold back. Pulled over mid-wicket to end the over with consecutive boundaries. A calculated gamble from England though, which keeps Ali on strike for the start of the next over
Salman goes for the drive and nails it! The field had come in and Salman does the right thing.
101.5 Mark Wood to Agha Salman, FOUR! That's got the crowd alive again! An attempted yorker at 147 clicks on the off-stump line and somehow, Salman's managed to shovel it out. Not only that, he's got enough on it to beat the man at mid-off to pick up a handy boundary too
101.4 Mark Wood to Agha Salman, at the hard length on top of off-stump. Salman is right behind the line to block, no run
Ali and Salman just had a little chat in the middle. Can we a couple of surprising strokes here?
101.3 Mark Wood to Agha Salman, banged in at a back of a length in the off-stump channel. Salman stays on the back foot to tap it into the off-side, no run
101.2 Mark Wood to Agha Salman, good length delivery to angle it into the right-hander. Salman stays in his crease to defend it back to Wood, no run
101.1 Mark Wood to Agha Salman, at the back of a length in the off-stump line. Salman stands tall to tap it into the covers, no run
Salman is back on strike, this time to face Wood. Will be interesting to see how he decides to take him on. The field is spread.
