Kolkata Knight Riders defeat Rajasthan Royals by 37 runs

After winning the toss and surprisingly choosing to bowl first, Steve Smith's Royals put the pressure on the KKR batting in the powerplay courtesy some splendid bowling from Jofra Archer. Shubhman Gill (47) and Nitish Rana (22) steadied their innings for a while as Andre Russell came in for a quick cameo of 24 runs. Eoin Morgan played alongside the lower order and scored a handy knock of 34 runs to provide the much-needed boost towards the end of the innings as they racked up 174 runs on the board.

Rajasthan Royals began the chase on a positive note in the first over but soon things started to fall apart as the crucial trio of Steve Smith, Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler departed to the dugout for cheap as they could not get the chase going. They had themselves to blame for the failures as they chose their shots poorly and did not adjust according to the new stadium after having played in Sharjah earlier. The KKR bowling duo of Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti were in terrific form picking up the key wickets to put the pressure on the Royals from the start. Rahul Tewatia and Tom Curran put a decent partnership before the former had to depart being castled by Varun Chakravarthy. Tom Curran was the lone warrior who stood at the crease till the end and scored an unbeaten knock of 54 runs in 36 balls with three sixes and two fours.

The next matches for the sides will see the Rajasthan Royals take on Royal Challengers Bangalore in Abu Dhabi whereas the Kolkata Knight Riders will face off against Delhi Capitals in Sharjah. Both the matches will be held on 3rd October as we have the first double header matchday in this year's IPL.

The Man of the Match award is awarded to Shivam Mavi for his figures of 2-20 from his quota of four overs. He got the two crucial wickets of Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler early in the Royals' chase.

The action continues tomorrow in the IPL 2020 as defending champions Mumbai Indians take on Kings XI Punjab tomorrow in Abu Dhabi. Catch all the live updates right here at Sportskeeda.

This is, I, Gaurav Kadam and my colleague, Shashwat Kumar signing off for the day! Stay safe and Good Night!
Rajasthan Royals finish at 137-9 at the end of 20 overs.

Ankit Rajpoot continued to attack Yadav but his efforts went in vain in the initial deliveries before he finally connected on the third delivery of the over getting his six over Eoin Morgan at the ropes. Tom Curran finished the inning with a splendid heave over the covers as the Royals fell short of the target. Kuldeep Yadav conceded 11 runs in the final over.

Kolkata Knight Riders win the match by a margin of 37 runs

Narine comes in for the 19th over and Tom Curran welcomes him back to the attack with a six over long-on. He continued to attack Narine as he picked up a couple with a shot towards long off and then followed that up with another six straight over the bowler's head. He brought up his 50 with a six to end the over as he smashed his third of the over the cow corner. A lone warrior in today's faltering RR lineup!

Kuldeep Yadav comes in to bowl the final over.

18.6 Sunil Narine to Tom Curran, THREE SIXES IN THE OVER! Dragged down outside off stump and that is just the sort of length Curran will feast upon! He goes deep in his crease and hammers it over cow corner for six!

The left-arm chinaman Kuldeep Yadav continues for KKR as the tail-ender Unadkat struggles to deal with his leg spin. The pair are able to add a a few runs before Unadkat hit one towards the square leg for a catch but the batsman alleged that the ball hit the Spider Cam cables. However, after a third-umpire review, the catch stood and Unadkat had to depart to the dugout.

Last man Ankit Rajpoot in for the Royals.

Sunil Narine is back into the attack
Over: 18 | Summary: 1 0 0 1 1 W Bowler: Kuldeep Yadav Score: 106/9
17.6 Kuldeep Yadav to Jaydev Unadkat, OUT! KULDEEP HAS ONE FINALLY! Back of a length delivery on leg stump and Unadkat looks to launch that one over mid wicket. However, that is to the longer boundary and he fails to get enough wood on it. Nagarkoti comes around at deep square leg and completes the catch!

But, wait! Unadkat is alleging that the ball has hit the cables of the Spider Cam and he might have a point, you know! However, after much deliberation, the umpire gives it out! Was Unadkat backing himself too much? So much that he nearly convinced us that he got out because of the cable? Well, we will never know!
