They have done a fair bit of rolling. It is fairly hard and the ball should come onto the bat nicely. There is no live grass. to hold it together A little bit bounce could be a factor. And so, having gone right through a plethora of emotions across the last four hours or so, and having put in our best efforts of expressing all that has unfolded at the Kensington Oval to you in words, we reach the end of our coverage of the 2024 edition of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. There's not much left to write, not much left to foster the sheer euphoria being experienced by the average Indian cricket fan - there'll hardly be a dry eye, a sleepy eye over the next few hours as the people of the country take to the streets and celebrate until well into the wee hours of the morning. The first experience of viewing India lift a World Cup for so, so many - the first ICC Men's Trophy for India in 11 years - the first ICC Men's World Cup title in 13, and the first ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 17 years... again, the magnitude of this is too much to be expressed in words. We'll be putting up as many clips and pictures of celebrations and euphoria across the country as possible on our platform, and with immense pleasure at that! Jasprit Bumrah with a huge roar! We are not kidding you - this is real. Rishabh Pant - how about that for a return to international cricket, eh? The Indian team now performs a lap of honor for their very loyal fans, waving the tricolor while doing so. Kohli has the trophy in hand - he has made a big announcement that he is done in this format in internationals and for someone who carried India's batting lineup for years together, this was as fitting a culmination of a career as it could have gotten!

And now, ladies and gentlemen, the moment is here. Rohit Sharma has been waiting for this for so many years. So many Indian supporters have been as well. But the wait has been worth it - Rohit tiptoes to the dais a la Lionel Messi and receives the trophy from the ICC Chairman Greg Barclay and Jay Shah. And he hoists the trophy aloft - in the midst of confetti everywhere, India have been crowned champions of the world in Men's T20Is for the second time! Rohit passes the trophy over to Virat Kohli who in turn hands it to Rahul Dravid, the head coach who signs off with a trophy to his name. And look at him go - Dravid roars in ecstasy! When was the last time you saw that? If you ever wondered what a World Cup means to a nation obsessed about this sport, these raw emotions capture it as well as any! And this is just the beginning of many, many wonderful images and clips to come!

Rohit Sharma (India captain): Very hard to sum up what we've been through for the last three or four years. We've worked very hard as individuals and as a team. A lot has gone in behind the scenes to win this game and the tournament. It's not today but what we've been doing for the last three or four years. We've played high pressure games in the past as well an d been on the wrong side. The guys do understand what needs to be done when the pressure is on., And today is the perfect example of what to do when you have your backs to the wall. We stuck together as a team. South Africa were on top but overall as a group, we wanted this real bad. Lot of effort, lot of mind needs to come together. And I'm very very proud of the bunch of boys that I have and the management as well for giving us that liberty to go out there and play. That starts from the management, coach and the players to go out there and do it. Throughout the tournament theyv;e been fantastic. (On Kohli's knock) Nobody was in doubt about the form of Virat. We know the quality that he has. HE has been on top of his game for the last fifteen years. Come the occasion we know that big players will stand up. Virat was holding that one end which was very crucial for us and the others played around him. For us to get to that total, it was a team effort. We wanted someone to bat as long as possible. It wasn't a wicket where it was easy to come out and keep the scoreboard ticking away. Virat did it perfectly and his experience of all those years came into picture. Axar's knock was very very crucial as well. (On Bumrah) I can understand you guys trying to put it out in words but I've been someone who has seen him for so many years playing alongside me. Even I don't know what exactly is it with him. I know what he brings to the table but how he does it, it's just a masterclass. He backs his skills which is more than enough and he's a very confident lad. Whatever he wants to do he executes it to perfection. To put it in one word, he's a class act. Hardik was brilliant as well. No matter how many runs are required, to bowl that last over requires nerves. (On the support) Absolutely fantastic - all the way from New York to Barbados. I just want to salute them for backing us. And also back home - billions of people are supporting us. I'm sure they're watching late into the night. They've been waiting for this as much as us.

And now, it's time for the Indians to receive their winners' medals by Jay Shah, the Honorable Secretary of the BCCI. Smiles on their faces, cheers all around the ground - loudest for Virat Kohli and their captain Rohit Sharma of course. My word what it must mean to these two - they've lived their international careers together. One had a T20 World Cup medal to his name, the other an ODI World Cup medal. This is the first one they've won together. At the fag end of their career too. Oh life and its ways of writing the most glorious scripts!

Aiden Markram (South Africa captain): Gutted for the time being, think it'll take some time for us for reflection on a really good campaign. Hurts quite a bit, having said that, still incredibly proud of this group and everyone involved with this team. Thought we bowled well, don't think there was hell of a lot to work with from this pitch, we batted really well as well, came down to the wire. Really good game of cricket. Not great to get over the line, incredibly proud of this group. We've seen with a lot of our games this campaign that it's not really over until the last ball is bowled. Until we're comfortable, there's always the scoreboard pressure. Things can happen and change quite quickly. We got into a great position, which proves that we were worthy finalists. One thing that's guaranteed for any South African all around the world is that they are a really competitive, respectful person, and will go down with a fight. That's one thing we as a group pride ourselves on. Hopefully we can draw from that. It's still a proud moment for us.

The match officials receive their mementos first up. And post that, we have South Africa's players collecting the runners-up medals from Lawson Naidoo, the chair of Cricket South Africa.

How did they lose this one? They will look back in agony and wonder in the days to come. When the dust settles though, the Proteas will know that they have had a campaign and a half to savor. Their first ever final and if they play like this, that silverware may not be that far away!

Emotion! Raw emotion. Jasprit Bumrah - a man who barely shows any, is in tears. That tells you something. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Mohammed Siraj and Hardik Pandya - they're all in tears. Heck we saw Rahul Dravid punch the air in delight. This is India's day. Destiny was cruel last year but the heavens above have been kind on this bunch this time around. Oh the scars of 19th November would have healed to a serious extent now alright!

Jasprit Bumrah is declared the Player of the Tournament. Here's what he has to say: I usually am the one who tries to keep my emotions in check and gets the job done. I don't have a lot of words. I usually don't cry a lot after the game but this feels really special. To pull a win like this feels really special. I'm just really over the moon. My son and family are here and I could do something special for India. We came close and fell short last time. When you do well on the big stage and the team wins, there's no better feeling. I was truing to keep myself in a bubble, spending time with my family and keeping my feet up. When the big day comes you have to do it even more. Whenever I am in my peak mindset I think of one ball at a time and one over at a time. This was what was working for me. Yes emotions were taking over but you have to keep yourself in check. Now that the job is done, you can bring the emotions out. (On the 16th over) It was a run-a-ball, we were thinking what is happening. The ball was scuffed up and it was reversing. I thought the length ball was an option. I was happy to keep my calm.

Well well! Massive announcement there - Virat Kohli has announced that this is his last T20 game for India.

Virat Kohli is the Player of the Match, here is what he has to say: Well this was my last T20 World Cup and this is exactly what we wanted to achieve. I was telling Rohit that one day you feel you can't get a run and then some special things happen. Well just the occasion, it was now or never situation I knew. It is the last T20 I am playing for India. This was our aim to win an ICC World Cup. It was a situation to respect it and playing according to that. Yes it was an open secret. It was always going to be my last T20 World Cup. New players will take over now. I have no doubt that they will keep the flag bearing high. No I don't think so, it's been a long wait for us. It's not just me alone, someone like Rohit as well who has played mine T20 World Cups. He deserves it as much as any in the squad. It is hard to explain. I wasn't very confident in the last few games but when God has to bless you with something, it will happen and I bow head. It's been difficult and it was the emotions of the game. It is very difficult to hold things back. The emotions will sink in a bit later. I couldn't be more thankful.

Hardik Pandya: Well means a lot. It's very emotional. We have been working very hard but something was not clicking but today we fulfilled the wish of our nation. Things have been very unfair but I believed if I keep working hard I will shine. It was a dream to win and especially getting an opportunity like this makes it even more special. We always believe we can do it, it was about executing the plans and let the pressure come to them. Credit to Jassi and the other bowlers which changed everything. I mean I knew that I won't be calm it won't help me. I committed 100 percent. I have been in this situation and I have always enjoyed pressure situations. I mean very happy for Rahul Dravid. Really enjoyed working with him. To give him a farewell like this is wonderful. I have had a very good relationship with him. All the support staff did a brilliant job.

Axar Patel: It means everything for me. When I came to this World Cup, the last few years I've been getting injured and not much chances. This time I felt I have to do something good for India and I'm feeling so proud. I was trying to keep it simple. I was just thinking that this was another match for me and not a final. I wasn't thinking what would happen if I got out. I was just playing to the merit. Rohit Sharma is an amazing man. He led India brilliantly in this World Cup. Rahul bhai told us that we should enjoy and not take pressure and do our best. Not today (on expecting a promotion). Suddenly Rahul bhai told me to pad up. I didn't get to think anything about my batting and that worked for me.

Mohammed Siraj: I only believed in Jassi bhai. The game changer is only one guy and that's Jasprit Bumrah. I was thinking of exactly that same day (19th November). It's an unbelievable feeling to be honest. I can't describe this feeling. Last year's World Cup we lost. As a player, this feeling is unbelievable. Every professional cricketer wants the World Cup. I am grateful, blessed and lucky to live this moment. Thank you God!

223 days ago, the mood of the entire nation saw a dramatic downward spiral over the course of one day as Australia's Travis Head plundered his side through to a World Cup title in front of a packed house at Ahmedabad. All hope seemed lost. The entire nation lost the ability to visualize the scenes of an Indian senior side going all the way in an ICC tournament. Now they do. They've just witnessed history - to think that so many in the contingent of new Indian fans have just seen India win a World Cup for the first time in their lives!

The Indian new-ball bowling pair of Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah had a firm grip over proceedings, completely tying the Proteas' top-order down with some really tidy lengths. Both Arshdeep and Bumrah got the ball to move about off the pitch and a bit off the air - Bumrah did for Reeza Hendricks with the former, as he does - producing an absolute pearl that pitched and sneaked right past Hendricks' outside edge to peg the off-stump back.

Arshdeep realized the value of off-paced deliveries in his first over itself, and mixed his paced up at times in his opening spell. He had Markram waft at a wide one in his second over, and got in amongst the wickets. South Africa seemed to have been pegged back and winded by the initial spell, but they still had a notable figure in Quinton de Kock at the crease. The left-hander wasn't timing it all too well initially, but his presence at the time counted for a lot.

Tristan Stubbs, having walked in at four, proceeded to don the role of aggressor, not letting the pressure of a final get to himself or de Kock. Once again, we saw Rohit Sharma turn to his spinners 1/5th of the overs into a run-chase of a final, and that went on to work in favour for South Africa. Stubbs went on the attack, not letting the likes of Axar Patel or Kuldeep Yadav settle, and so, the Proteas managed to end the powerplay on a good note.

The runs began flowing about thick and fast for South Africa - Stubbs was seeming to glide his side ahead before he moved a bit too much across and missed a low full toss from Axar Patel. Heinrich Klaasen came in and played himself into the game as de Kock looked to break free. Just as he looked to get a move-on, he picked out Kuldeep at deep fine leg off a rather innocuous delivery from Arshdeep.

The ghosts of the 19th of November began creeping in those middle overs as Klaasen tore into the Indian spinners. Axar Patel's final over went for 24 as Klaasen bludgeoned the ball towards the roof of the Kensington Oval at will from well within the crease, and the Proteas were able to bring it down close to a run-a-ball. Seemed like their game to lose... but there just had to be a twist with the Proteas being in a winning position in a World Cup game, didn't it?

The green kept rubbing on India - figuratively - as Klaasen fended off a wide yorker off Pandya to Pant behind. And so, began a turnaround that had everyone viewing the game on the edge of their seat. The dots kept piling as Jansen, and then Maharaj felt the heat - Bumrah went right through Jansen with a peach and set the game up nicely for Arshdeep and Hardik to close the game out.

Arshdeep and Hardik did deliver against an experienced, but pressurized David Miller. One could tell the stars were aligned towards India completely once Suryakumar Yadav pulled off the near-impossible - clutching onto a high ball from Miller at long off, parrying it inside as he ran past the ropes, before hopping back in and completing the catch.

To put things into further perspective, almost everyone from our commentary team and cricket content team were still in school when Misbah-ul-Haq scooped a length delivery from Joginder Sharma right into Sreesanth's lap at short fine, and India did the unthinkable by going all the way in the inaugural edition of the tournament. This sure will go down as an iconic moment for so many of us - well into our 20s now, and stationed all across the country.

The magnitude of this enormous feat will only sink in over the course of the next few days. The fireworks are off across the country, there are parades, people have flocked onto the roads already - long, long night ahead in India, and an immensely memorable one, to say the least!

11 YEARS OF HURT, 11 YEARS OF AGONY, 11 YEARS OF UNFULFILLED INDIAN EXPECTATIONS OF AN ICC TROPHY HAVE ALL BEEN PUT TO BED BY 11 'IMMORTAL' INDIVIDUALS IN BLUE AT BARBADOS!!! AT LAST, AT LONG LAST, THE INDIAN MEN'S CRICKET TEAM HAVE BEEN CROWNED CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD - AGAIN! A population of more than 1.4 billion will have all the reason to tango all night long - India's ranking in the World Happiness Index must see a brobdingnagian rise over the next few days! After all, one of their senior national cricket teams has just injected a massive dash of ecstasy, triumphing in a summit clash of a Men's T20 World Cup! Tears of happiness, faces of triumph both on the field and off it - Hardik Pandya is absolutely beside himself! Barbados erupted like Baroda as soon as the last ball made its way towards deep mid-wicket... the crowd is busy screaming "Chak de India" at the top of their voices as Rohit Sharma takes a moment having moved away from the hustle and bustle in the middle, savours the moment - having been through possibly the toughest period of his cricketing career over the last few months, this - right here, right now, is Rohit Sharma's moment of redemption!
