CSK win by 6 wickets with two balls to spare

Right then, get your breaths back, chug down that mug of water and bask in the glory of another vintage Dhoni finish. Thala turning back the clock and plastering a towering six to finish off the proceedings.

CSK are the first team in IPL 2021 to qualify for the playoffs. Set a meager target of 135, SRH would have believed after the first three overs that they were in with a chance as both CSK batters looked sluggish and extremely conservative in their approach.

However, Ruturaj jumped down the track against Bhuvneshwar in his second over on couple of occasions and started the onslaught that lasted for quite a few overs.

He was ably joined in by his partner Faf du Plessis as the two batters took the game away from the hands of SRH. It was around the 10th over mark that Holder's incessant efforts paid some dividend as Ruturaj lobbed one straight into the hands of Williamson at extra cover.

Moeen Ali, who once again came ahead of Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu managed to hit some lusty blows before departing against the guile of wily fox in Rashid Khan. However, it was the back five over of the innings where the game got much closer than many would have anticipated.

Holder sent Raina and du Plessis back to the pavilion in quick succession and it looked like CSK might tank this one. However, the old workhorses in Rayudu and Dhoni steered the ship and ensured that nothing untoward happened and men-in-canary-yellow reached the victory shores.

So that was that from our side, this is Abhinav Singh and my partner Shashwat Kumar signing off for the day. Do join us tomorrow at the same time as we bring to you live updates from the all-important contest between Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings. Goodnight and Goodbye!

Kane Williamson (losing captain): Not quite enough runs. The first half wasn't our best, Although we didn't get enough on the board, we were competitive enough. If we get 10-15 more, we could have come back. We were around 40 after the powerplay overs which wasn't that bad. We saw some cameos from the youngsters that gave us a fighting chance. It's hard when you turn up on the losing side. They played well and they are on top of the points table. Ultimately, its about if you can etch out another 10-15 runs. They played better. Everybody has their losses but you need to pick yourself and build upon it.

Faf du Plessis: I thought it was cooler but the humidity went crazy. (the dismissal shot) It was a tired shot, Might bring few more dry gloves (laughs). I do the work before the tournament.. running from long-on to long-off. You miss the fun when you are out. I was out with a concussion. Our balance about the team is good. Our batting lineup is long. The guys coming in are aggressive. Moeen has been a great addition. Simultaneously, Jadeja can bowl a few in between.

MS Dhoni (Winning skipper): I think it means a lot, of course. We said as a team that we want to come back strong. We are known for that and there was lot at stake. We have to admit when things are tough that not a lot of things go your way. I think the boys have done really well to keep going. I think every credit needs to be given to players and the support staff. I think the wicket was a difficult one. It was not spinning or bouncing much. The bounce was coming to your knee height and to your waist with the same length. The bowlers adjusted well, varied their pace and length. Bowled in the right channels. That's what I told them earlier. Whenever they came up to bowl, they bowled the right line. With a bit of dew, it becomes slightly easy. The bounce didn't change much. The ball was coming at nice length. To the fans, they have been great. We do not utter a lot about the performance. I would request them to be humble and respect each and every one.

Josh Hazlewood (Player of the Match):
Very satisfying. Putting a lot of hard work, Little things within the game. Very satisfying. Yeah, he (Jason Roy) is the one that sets the scene for them. Its always great to remove him and put the pressure right back on them. I think the wicket offered a little bit on the slower side. We know the last four-five overs are important, been working in the nets, nice to see it coming right on the ground. It's good to learn from DJ Bravo over the last few weeks too, and it's been a great learning curve for me.
19.4 Siddharth Kaul to MS Dhoni, SIX! THAT WILL BE THAT! Right in the slot on middle and leg stump. Dhoni clears his front leg and absolutely launches that one into oblivion over wide long on! That is onto the road and CSK are well on the road to becoming one of the top two-placed teams! What a win for CSK and this juggernaut keeps rolling on!
A round table conference between Williamson, Kaul and Holder happening at the moment. And Sid Kaul will come from around the wicket
19.3 Siddharth Kaul to MS Dhoni, back of a length delivery on off stump. Dhoni gets up on his toes and chalks that one straight to the fielder in the ring at mid wicket. 2 off 3 now!
Right then, stage set for MSD to finish the game in his trademark style?
19.2 Siddharth Kaul to Ambati Rayudu, low full toss outside off stump. Rayudu comes forward and drills the ball into the off side towards deep cover point for just another single
19.1 Siddharth Kaul to Ambati Rayudu, dug into the track outside off stump. Rayudu leaves that one alone thinking that it will be called a wide but does not get the call in his favor! 3 runs required off 5 balls
Siddharth Kaul [2-0-17-0] is handed the responsibility for the final over

A poor penultimate over from SRH and Bhuvneshwar as CSK nearly canter to the victory. Couple of short of good length deliveries and both batters  jumped on it and cleared the deficit to bring it down to 3 runs off the remaining 6 deliveries. Surely, there is no other twist in the tale now? Or is there? Can Sid Kaul do a Kartik Tyagi?

18.6 Bhuvneshwar Kumar to MS Dhoni, slower delivery on a length outside off stump. Dhoni comes forward and shanks that one into the off side towards extra cover. Two dots to end the over!
18.5 Bhuvneshwar Kumar to MS Dhoni, yorker just outside off stump. Dhoni jams his bat and digs the ball out towards the fielder in the ring at extra cover. A bit of an anti climax!
18.4 Bhuvneshwar Kumar to MS Dhoni, FOUR! SHOT! Slower delivery on a back of  a length outside off stump. DHoni sits deep in his crease and clubs that one past deep mid wicket for four. 3 runs required in 8 balls
18.4 Bhuvneshwar Kumar to MS Dhoni, back of a length delivery way outside off stump. Dhoni watches that one go through to Saha and then watches the umpire signal a wide too!
18.3 Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Ambati Rayudu, bac of a length delivery just outside off stump. Rayudu comes half forward and punches the ball towards deep cover point for one
Nerves of steel from Rayudu! CSK breathe easy, at least for the moment, 9 required in 10 deliveries
18.2 Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Ambati Rayudu, SIX! SHOT! In the slot on middle and leg stump. Rayudu clears his front leg and clatters that one way over wide long on for a maximum!
18.1 Bhuvneshwar Kumar to MS Dhoni, very full delivery just outside off stump. Dhoni has a swing at it and chalks it down the ground towards the sweeper at long on for just a single
Bhuvneshwar Kumar [3-0-21-0] to bowl the penultimate over
Only 2 runs in the first four balls and CSK dugout must have been perspiring profusely. However, Rayudu with a mighty heave over the extra cover region for a boundary settles some of the nerves. The game is delicately balanced and the upcoming penultimate over could very well be the one where this game is decided! 16 runs required in 12 balls. SRH were 115/6 at the same stage while CSK are 119/4
