Commentary
Right then, that brings an end to our coverage of the inaugural match of the Women's T20 Challenge between the Supernovas and the Velocity. Do join us tomorrow at 3:30pm IST as the Trailblazers will play their first match in the tournament and lock horns with Velocity at Sharjah followed by Qualifier 1 of the IPL at 7:30pm IST which will witness the clash of the Mumbai Indians and the Delhi Capitals at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Stay tuned to Sportskeeda for the latest news as well as live commentaries of matches from across the globe. This is me, Maanas Upadhyay, and my partner, Bala, signing off. Stay home and stay safe!
What a cracker of a contest we have witnessed at Sharjah tonight! After the completion of the league stage of the IPL, the onus was on the women to continue the excitement and boy, they did not disappoint! The match went right down the wire and saw the Velocity emerge victorious over the Supernovas by 5 wickets in an absolute edge-of-the-seat thriller!
Sune Luus has been adjudged as the Player of the Match for her brilliant unbeaten knock of 37 from 21 deliveries, which took the Velocity over the line, something that seemed next to impossible at one stage.
Skippers' Comments:

Harmanpreet Kaur (Supernovas skipper):
Yes, we were 20 runs short, but if you want to win the game, you have to keep bowling well. I think whatever we thought, we didn't bowl according to our plans in the last couple of overs. They batted really well. Last four overs, we didn't utilize it very well with the bat. We could've looked for the singles at least but we didn't get those runs. Playing after a long time, it's not easy for the players. If you keep winning then only you can survive in this tournament. We need to come up with a positive approach in the next game. There was dew in the last couple of overs, but I feel it's part of the game and we didn't win this because we didn't bowl well in the last couple of overs.

Mithali Raj (Velocity skipper): It went very close. Definitely challenging. Most of the girls were part of the T20 WOrld Cup but Jhulan and I are playing after the last edition. I was expecting 120-130, but you expect the openers to get you 30-40 runs. Losing Dani, our main player, there was some panic, but Veda and Luus have played really well and got us back on track. Such platforms help young players rub shoulders with seniors and their idols and that's excellent exposure for them. It's difficult to prepare for back-to-back games, since it's a 2pm game tomorrow, but that's how it is.
Velocity beat Supernovas by 5 wickets!

It was a terrific begin to the innings for Supernovas as Ayabonga Khaka bowled a maiden-wicket to begin proceedings. Shefali Verma provided them with an explosive start as the youngster smacked four boundaries before perishing to Khaka. Mithali Raj seemed quite rusty as she could manage only 7 runs from her 19-ball stay at the crease.

Veda Krishnamurthy weathered the storm and scored a gritty 28-ball 29 before perishing to Radha Yadav. Velocity were reeling at that stage, as the scoreboard read 65/4 at the end of 13 overs, with their big names back in the pavilion. Wicket-keeper Sushma Verma joined hands with Sune Luus and the duo batted wonderfully as they brought Velocity back into the contest.

Verma scored a brilliant 33-ball 34 knock and kept the scoreboard ticking. However, it was Sune Luus who stole the show with a unbeaten blitzkrieg of 37 runs, which came of just 21 runs, which took the Velocity over the line. Her innings consisted of four lovely boundaries and one huge maximum and was striking at 176.19, which helped Velocity make a grand comeback into this game.

As for the bowlers, Ayabonga Khaka was brilliant with the ball in hand as she wrecked havoc with the new ball in hand and returned with envious figures of 2-27 from her four overs, which included a maiden over too! Radha Yadav, Poonam Yadav and Shshikala Siriwardene chipped in with a wicket too but in the end, their efforts went in vain as Velocity won the game by 5 wickets and in doing so secure a win over Supernovas for the first time!
19.5 Shashikala Siriwardene to Sune Luus, FOUR! That's it! Slightly back of a length, she doesn't have the width but goes for the cut. Gets the outside edge and it runs really fine for a boundary!
19.4 Shashikala Siriwardene to Shikha Pandey, slightly short of a length, she pulls it hard towards the fielder at deep square leg
19.3 Shashikala Siriwardene to Sune Luus, length ball outside the off-stump, she sweeps it hard towards the fielder at deep square leg for a single
19.2 Shashikala Siriwardene to Sune Luus, FOUR! Fuller delivery on the leg-stump, she sweeps it fine and gets it past the fielder at short fineleg for a boundary
19.1 Shashikala Siriwardene to Shikha Pandey, round arm delivery full outside off, gets an inside edge and they take a single
A dot ball began the over after which the batters collected knocked the ball around for singles and doubles in the over. Sushma Verma looked to go big but ended up presenting an easy catch to Harmanpreet Kaur, who was patrolling the long on fence. A brace completed the over as Velocity collect 6 runs from it!

Velocity need 9 runs off the final over to win this contest! This match has gone right down the wire!

Shashikala Siriwardene to bowl!
Over 19 | Summary: 0 1 2 1 W 2 Bowler: Poonam Yadav 118/5
18.6 Poonam Yadav to Sune Luus, drops it slightly short this time, she goes back and pulls it hard to deep mid-wicket. Bit of fumble, but they can't come back for the second
18.5 Poonam Yadav to Sushma Verma, IN THE AIR once again! And GONE! Dances down the wicket, doesn't reach the pitch of the ball and mistimes the hit. Skipper Kaur is safe as a house at the long-on fence
18.4 Poonam Yadav to Sune Luus, comes down and chips it over the bowler to long-off for a single
18.3 Poonam Yadav to Sune Luus, length delivery on the stumps, sweeps it hard on the on-side and finds the gap between the fielders at the fence giving them time to come back for a brace
18.2 Poonam Yadav to Sushma Verma, IN THE AIR! But drops short! Flighted delivery, tries to go over the top on the on-side but doesn't get the timing right. Falls well short of the fielder at deep mid-wicket
18.1 Poonam Yadav to Sushma Verma, drops it slightly short outside the off-stump but she cuts it straight to the fielder at backward point
Ayabonga Khaka loses her radar as she bowls a couple of wides in the first half of the over. A full toss on the body is punished to the boundary rope and the Velocity have made a roaring comeback into this contest. A risky run on the final delivery allows them to collect 10 runs from that over!

Velocity need another 15 runs from 2 overs at 7.5 RPO!

Poonam Yadav to bowl the penultimate over! Will she be able to spin a web?
