Pitch Report
It looks like a good wicket, but it doesn't look as good as the last couple of games. There is an even covering of grass on it. Fast bowlers are going to get a bit of extra bounce on it

5th T20I•Jul 17•Australia tour of West Indies 2021
The commentary is not available for this match. Please check the scorecard for latest updates.
That ends the Group Stages of this year's T20 World Cup. Join us on Sportskeeda tomorrow at 7.00 PM for the first Super 8 clash between the USA and South Africa. Keep following Sportskeeda for the latest news on the world of sports. This has been Lavil Saldanha alongside Arya signing off. We hope you enjoyed our coverage, and we look forward to seeing you sometime soon. TA-DA!
Rovman Powell (captain, West Indies): It is important to play good cricket and while we do that, we need to keep on improving. The guys were excited to come here. We know this venue is a good batting track and we took our opportunities tonight. (on Nicholas Pooran) It is on the back of hard work, he has had a good last 12 months not only in franchise cricket but also in international cricket. (on Obed McCoy) It is going to be a good headache. We have been playing here for quite some time and we need to use the conditions to our advantage. We started at 8-9 but now we are ranked 3. When we went to Guyana, the support was lovely. Trinidad was a packed house and St. Lucia support was good as well. When they were picking up a team or a World Cup XI, they gave me freedom and I want to thank them for giving me this freedom
Rashid Khan (captain, Afghanistan): They started well with the bat. In T20, it is tough to come back and restrict them to less than 220, it was a good effort by the boys. It is more about the execution and it is good that it happened at this stage of the tournament. There was a strong breeze and as a bowler, you are thinking about where you can bowl and how can you restrict your over to less than 10 runs. The morale is very high and we have achieved what we wanted to. Our next aim is how are we going to play on those pitches and how are we going to play as a team. The fielding was a positive for us in this game.
Nicholas Pooran is the Player of the Match, here is what he has to say: You don't want to be on 97 and get run out but it was all about getting to a respectable total and we managed to do that. Accessing the conditions early. Getting off to a great start in the powerplay is very important and then not losing any wickets in the middle overs. With the Afghanistan spinners, you had to take your time, It's difficult to strike the ball in the tournament but when you get the chances in good pitches like this you have to capitalise. Yeah you know not only about tonight but we have been very consistent over the last one and a half years. The last game in Trinindad from Rutherford inspired us. When it is your day you have to take full advantage of it.
West Indies win by 104 runs
Afghanistan: 114 all out in 16.2 overs Ibrahim Zadran: 38(28b) |Azmatullah Omarzai: 23(19b) Obed McCoy: 3/14 (3 overs) | Akeal Hosein: 2/21 (4 overs)
A convincing win here for the hosts as they cap off the group stages with a huge win. They will be elated and will be carrying this confidence as they play England in the same venue in a couple of days time.
Their defence started on the right note as they saw the back of Gurbaz early. Ibrahim Zadran and Gulbadin Naib looked to foil their plans but it wasn't to happen as soon after the powerplay, Motie saw the back of Naib. It was Obed McCoy who then followed it up as he picked up 2 wickets in his first over which indeed broke the back of the chase, leaving Afghanistan reeling at 63/5.
Karim Janat and Azmatullah Omarzai found the boundary on a couple of occasion and it looked like something was on the cards. But it was soon put off as Akeal Hosein dismissed Omarzai and some poor running between the wickets saw Karim Janat's stay cut short. Towards the end, it was Rashid Khan who sent a few into the stands but it was a little too much for them as he too went down looking to score boundaries.
A complete performance from West Indies in all three departments in their final game of the group stages. Obed McCoy, returning after a hiatus, picked up 3 wickets with 2 of them coming in the first over. Akeal Hosein and Gudakesh Motie picked up 2 wickets each with Russell and Alzarri Joseph capping it off with one each in their wickets tally.
16.2 Andre Russell to Rashid Khan, WICKET! West Indies registers a massive 104 run win to end their group stage campaign. A fuller-length delivery around the off-stump from Russell, Rashid stays deep and tries to launch this down the ground, balloons it up in the air from the cue end of the bat, Rovman Powell comes running in from long off and holds onto the catch after a bit of a misjudgement at the start.
16.1 Andre Russell to Rashid Khan, SIX! That has been absolutely crunched by Rashid Khan. Sits back in the crease and was expecting that short delivery, an almighty swipe across the line and sends that many a mile over the deep midwicket fence.
Andre Russell (2-0-11-0) comes back into the attack and will be bowling to Rashid Khan on strike
West Indies will be convinced by the way they have won this game. This has been a comprehensive win for them and they will want to finish it off on the very next ball that is bowled

15.6 Alzarri Joseph to Fazalhaq Farooqi, zones it into the stumps on that occasion and Farooqi defends that back to the bowler.
15.6 Alzarri Joseph to Fazalhaq Farooqi, another quick short delivery but a bit leg sidish on this occasion and has been called a wide.
15.5 Alzarri Joseph to Fazalhaq Farooqi, Alzarri with another rib snorter, around the middle stump and Farooqi fends that awkwardly towards the off side.
Fazalhaq Farooqi, RHB, walks out to the middle and will be on strike
That was an excellent grab there from Pooran, who has had an excellent day with the bat and now with the gloves behind the sticks
15.4 Alzarri Joseph to Naveen-ul-Haq, WICKET! That's a brilliant catch from Nicholas Pooran, Alzarri Joseph banging it short again, a very well directed bumper around the head height of Naveen, he tries to take evasive actions and sway away from that but the ball thuds onto his gloves, was a difficult catch for Pooran who times his jump to perfection and clutches onto that.
Naveen-ul-Haq c Nicholas Pooran b Alzarri Joseph 4(6b,1x4,0x6)
15.3 Alzarri Joseph to Rashid Khan, Rashid waits on the backfoot and swings at that good-length delivery around middle, from the inside half of the bat down towards deep midwicket and settles for a single.
15.2 Alzarri Joseph to Rashid Khan, hard-length delivery around the leg stump, kisses his back and off to the keeper it goes.
15.1 Alzarri Joseph to Rashid Khan, FOUR! That was a good bumper from Alzarri, hits the wicket hard, Rashid clears his front leg and swats across the line, flies off the top edge down towards the fine leg boundary.
Alzarri Joseph (2-0-24-0) comes back into the attack and will be bowling to Rashid Khan on strike
End of the spell for Gudakesh Motie. The pacers will be looking to blow away the remaining two wickets and bring an early end to the game. Unless, Rashid and Naveen have other ideas
