Pitch Report
"Fourteen wickets fell yesterday. Those deliveries at round the good length areas going to make the difference again today. It's going to be difficult to score again today. Bowlers are in control, they will be again on day 2."

That marks the end of this first test match then with Australia claiming a 1-0 lead in the 3-test match series and starting off their new WTC cycle with a win. An early finish means some extra rest for the players before the second test begins on July 3 in Grenada. We will see you then but for now this is Sourabh Agrawal signing off on behalf of Karthik Raj and the entire team. Good night!
Pat Cummins (Australian Captain): "It was a great test match. Coming here this morning, I thought it was going pretty tight, We played as well as we could. Coming in this morning, I felt like 200 first but once the guys batted specially Carey, it felt great. He (Hazlewood) is great, really lucky to have him. Even if there is something on the pitch, he extracts it. He (Webster) got in the team on the back of a lot of Sheffield Shield runs, he has a lot of experience, is positive and keeps the scoreboard ticking, a huge asset for us. It is a quick turnaround so firstly we need to rest and recover. Will go and have a look at conditions and then assess."
Roston Chase (West Indies Captain): "The result is a bit heart-breaking. We started well with the ball bowling them out 180. The plan was to get at least a 100-run lead. If we got that, it would have put us in a good position. Thought we did well to the lead but we could have got more. I thought we slipped up in terms of fielding, we dropped too many chances. We can't drop players at this level. Travis Head and Beau Webster had a good partnership. I can't discredit the bowlers, they put in their best. (On Shamar Joseph) Coming into the game, there was a bit of controversy in the news talking about Curtly Ambrose and stuff. I want to congratulate him and the innings he played in the end, it shows the character and heart the young man has. We didn't get off to a good start. It was a new-ball wicket. We thought once we could nullify the new ball, it will be easier."
Travis Head is the player of the match for his twin half-centuries: "I would have like to conquer the conditions a little bit more, left a few out there but it was tricky on day 1 and we batted exceptionally well to get to 300. I felt like I was more positive on day 1 when the game was there for the taking but last night was desperate to make sure I see it through. It was nice to get in with Beau, it was a but slow for me in the second innings but that was required and I was happy to do it. He (Beau Webster) has started off really well in his test career, I have played a lot against him, he has a lot of first class experience. I don't try to put a lot of pressure on myself but try to be accountable, I was disappointed in Lord's but glad to be amongst runs in a week tough for the batters."
Josh Hazlewood: "Obviously, there is enough in the wicket and it was starting to get tired. It was just about hitting the area time and again. I am just enjoying cricket, enjoying Test cricket and the group. It is good fun and we keep putting in the performances. Once, West Indies took the second new ball, things started happening. Didn't expect the game to finish so quickly. It was just about hitting that good length where the batters didn't know to go back or forward. We got a few bowleds and catches through that."
6:15 PM Local Time (3:45 AM IST): Australia win by 159 runs
Travis Head 59(78) & 61(95) | Josh Hazlewood 2/41 & 5/43 Shamar Joseph 8(8) & 44(22) | 4/46 & 5/87
Getting bowled out for 180 in the first innings and winning the match by almost the same margin, Australia dismissing all the murmur about them not being at their best. Having said that, West Indies would not really be happy with the way this has panned out. They had a fair chance of taking this one but as it often happens in a test match, the better team over all the days (just 3 in this case) has won.
On a pitch where batting was the tougher discipline, Australia opted to bat but could only muster 180 on the back of Head's half-century. However, their bowlers, the famous trio of Starc, Hazlewood and Cummins were as immaculate as ever and shared the spoils in the first innings conceding a lead of just 10 runs as West Indies batters failed to covert their starts with Shai Hope top-scoring for them with 48.
The real turning point came in the third innings though when fter bring reduced to 65/4, Australia managed to go past 300 with some remarkable batting on Day 3. Another half-century from Travis Head to go with one from Beau Webster and a sparkling 65 from Alex Carey took their lead beyond the reach of West Indies.
Josh Hazlewood ran riot in the second innings with his 13th five-wicket haul as the hosts crumbled with the bat again. Shamar Joseph not only was the best bowler of the match with 9 wickets including a 5-er but also entertained with a quickfire 44 becoming the highest run getter for West Indies in the final innings,
After an extended half an hour and another few overs added, the final couple of wickets fell to Lyon in the final over of the day and made sure there is no day 4 to this test match.
Jayden Seales has been dismissed for 0 runs off 1 balls
33.4 Nathan Lyon to Jayden Seales, THAT'S THAT! AUSTRALA WIN! Full and sliding in, Seales comes forward to defend while he gets an inside-edge onto the pad. The ball lobs up to short leg where Sam Konstas takes another catch. So, the West Indies have been bowled out for 141 as Australia win by 159 runs!
Jayden Seales has 3 balls to negate to take this to Day 4
Jayden Seales batting at 11th position
No fifty for Shamar but boy hasn't he entertained us late in the piece. He has been the best player for West Indies, not only with the ball but with the bat too.
Shamar Joseph has been dismissed for 44 runs off 22 balls
33.3 Nathan Lyon to Shamar Joseph, EDGED AND TAKEN! Length delivery outside-off, Shamar looks to swing hard but he gets an outside-edge. Alex Carey is unable to snaffle the ball but it deflects off his glove while Usman Khawaja at first slip ends up completing the take!
A pigeon near the pitch now, umpire Nitin Menon makes sure it hops away. A slight halt in play.
33.2 Nathan Lyon to Shamar Joseph, tossed up full and wide of off, Shamar looks to smack it down the ground but he misses it.
33.1 Nathan Lyon to Shamar Joseph, FOUR! Full outside-off, Shamar drills it in front of point for a boundary.
We finally have the final over of the day coming up and next on Shamar Joseph's list will be the fastest test fifty for West Indies. The record is held by Shane Shillingford who made it back in 2014 off 25 deliveries, Shamar needs to get 10 in this over.

32.6 Josh Hazlewood to Justin Greaves, FOUR! Length delivery angling in, Greaves looks to turn it to the leg-side while he gets a leading-edge. The ball flies past the fielder at gully and races to the fence.
