So, the spoils are shared here in Budapest but one side is clearly happier than the other. Hungary stay alive at Euro 2020 and France now face a tough test against Portugal in what should be an intriguing replay of the Euro 2016 final. Before I sign off to catch the rest of today's action, I'd like to thank all my readers for keeping up with my live updates!
World champions held!! Great performance from #HUN organised and resilient. Clearance after clearance. Their fans’ support deafening. Uplifting to see a full stadium. Proper atmosphere. #HUNFRA#EURO2020 1-1
The reigning World champions put in a much better display in the second half but will now have to get the better of a formidable Portugal team next week. The game saw a flurry of chances towards the end, and Hungary deserve all the plaudits today for their exceptionally gritty display!
France, on the other hand, will be thoroughly disappointed with this result. Deschamps' charges are still in pole position in their group but this draw has now thrown Group F wide open!
Not a single soul has spoken of Hungary as a contender to emerge from this Group of Death, but the Magyars now find themselves in with a chance. Their last group match is against an inconsistent Germany outfit, and Hungary will back themselves to defy the odds and pull off a shocking upset.
France were the dominant force for much of this match but their toothless finishing has cost them dearly in this fixture. Both Mbappe and Benzema missed massive chances for Les Bleus and it could have been much worse for them had it not been for Griezmann's intervention in the second half.
Huge result for Hungary here at the Puskas Arena in Budapest. The Magyars dug deep to pull off a resilient display and made France suffer for much of the game to come away with a well-deserved point!
FULL-TIME: Hungary 1-1 France (Attila Fiola 45'; Antoine Griezmann 66')
90 + 5' The check is over, no penalty. One last push for France!
VAR check for a penalty, what's happened here? Drama in stoppage-time, and it's unclear what the referees are checking. .
90 + 4' Chaos in the box as Gulacsi rises highest to punch the ball! France are grasping at straws at the moment, it's now or never for them.
90 + 3' France keeping the ball well, but are yet to scythe through Hungary's defence. Kante takes matters into his own hands and wins a free-kick on the right flank. Crucial set-piece for France.
Four minutes of stoppage-time. France's chances of a victory are slipping away from their fingers.
90' France are the dominant force here, but have only a handful of minutes to get the win here. Hungary win a throw-in in their own half, and the applause is as loud as it has been today!
88' Hungary, meanwhile, are giving everything they have to get in France's way. Another clearance, and Les Bleus have to start again.
Not so surprising after all. Dembele was holding his right leg, and Deschamps does not want to take any chances with his super-sub.
87' France with another change, Thomas Lemar replaces Ousmane Dembele. Surprising decision from Deschamps, Dembele was impressive with his cameo.
86' France are piling on the pressure but their intricate passing is meeting a few roadblocks. Hungary are defending with every last player, they are in desperate need of this point.
Portugal blew Hungary away after the 84th minute. Well, it's the 84th minute now. Hungary have a point to prove today..
84' Another change for Hungary - Gergo Lovrencsis on for a tiring Laszlo Kleinheisler.
83' Tolisso with another shot! Much easier save from Gulacsi this time - the Hungarian shot-stopper is stepping up with some important interventions today.
82' Exceptional save from Gulacsi! Mbappe finds himself through on goal and unleashes a powerful shot, Gulacsi sticks a hand out to keep the Magyars in the game. Kylian Mbappe should have done better there.
81' France whip in their corner but it's far too close to Gulacsi. Hungary are in no hurry here, they'll take their time to get things started.
A goal here will see France through to the knock-outs. Hungary, on the other hand, are defending with their lives to stay relevant at the Euros. 10 crucial minutes for both teams!
78' France pushing forward with the ball but Hungary are holding their ground with a modicum of grit. This game could go either way at the moment.
76' France with a double change, Karim Benzema and Paul Pogba off for Corentin Tolisso and Olivier Giroud. France want the winner here.
76' Change for Hungary, Tamas Cseri on for Andras Schafer.
74' Sallai with a shot! The ball falls to the midfielder at the edge of the penalty area, and he unleashes a powerful shot! The ball takes a deflection, however, and Lloris gets down to save.
72' Dembele wreaks havoc yet again and the Griezmann look to take the ball under control. The Frenchman is fouled and the referee plays the advantage, Pogba's shot is off target. France wanted a free-kick there..
Cooling break in Budapest as both teams take a breather. The scores are level at the moment, can France win this? Hungary will have other ideas, they'll be looking for their own winner.
70' Dembele causes more problems for Hungary and wins another free-kick. Mbappe attempts an acrobatic finish from the set-piece but isn't able to hit the target. France smell blood now - Hungary will have to be on guard.
Hungary will be furious with themselves after that shambolic piece of defending. There was never a chance there, and what could have been a historic result now hangs in the balance.
66' GOOOAAAAAAAALLLL GRIEZMANN!!! You just cannot keep Antoine out of this game!! Lloris' long ball fools every single Hungarian defender and Mbappe pounces with a cross. Hungary struggle to clear their lines and Griezmann smashes in the equaliser. 1-1!
65' Pavard walking a tightrope here and concedes another foul. Sallai has tormented him this afternoon and the Bayern Munich man cannot afford another error.
End-to-end stuff now in Budapest as France seem desperate to level the playing field. Ever the daredevils, Hungary see this as an opportunity to double their lead. Intriguing half-hour coming up!
60' Hungary counter immediately down the right but Varane is on hand to intercept. This game is heating up now!
59' DEMBELE HITS THE POST! The ambidextrous speedster turns Hungary's defence inside out and unleashes a shot and smashes into the woodwork! Immediate impact from the substitute.
58' Hungary push forward and look to double their lead as Schafer and Fiola keep the ball in advanced positions on the left. Sallai attempts a shot from a good area, but his wayward attempt effectively ends the move for the Magyars.
57' Ousmane Dembele on for Adrien Rabiot. France with a statement of intent here as Ousmane Dembele comes on for Rabiot. Pace, pace, and more pace!
53' Tensions are rising here in Budapest as Kimpembe and Pogba bully Sallai off the ball. Sallai is not thrilled with their interventions but the referee does not seem to mind at the moment.
52' Yellow Card for Endre Botka. The defender clatters into Kylian Mbappe, that's one of the easier decisions the referee will have to make tonight.
51' Griezmann wins the ball back in midfield as France mount another attack. Pogba takes a shot from distance but slips before his effort, and France will now have to start again.
49' Pogba with a threatening cross, and Gulacsi takes it off Benzema's head with a powerful punch! France seem incensed that they have conceded a lead and are in no mood to relent.
47' France dominating the ball in the opening stages, but Hungary won't mind as long as they can keep Les Bleus out of their penalty area. France need to be incisive here, a defeat would massively dent their prospects.
46' We're back for the second half! France with the ball now, from left to right.
France will contemplate some changes for the second half. Giroud and Dembele, perhaps? Plenty of quality on that bench. Back in a few minutes with the second half.
Roland Sallai created more chances (2) for #HUN than any other player against #FRA
Deschamps will probably have some choice words for both his defence and attack during the interval. Pogba and Kante did their part to seize the initiative for France, but have been let down by some lacklustre finishing and a defensive brainfade.
France had several chances to put the game to bed and have paid the price for some poor finishing. Benzema and Mbappe have been the culprits so far but with another 45 minutes of football left, the two forwards will have to bring their quality to the fore.
The half-time whistle goes off here in Budapest as the crowd applauds its players down the tunnel. Hungary put in a massive shift in that first half and will be thrilled with their goal. The Magyars hold the advantage here, but will have to bear another onslaught from France to see out a victory today.
HALF-TIME: Hungary 1-0 France (Attila Fiola 45 + 2')
45 + 5' Hungary find themselves up the pitch yet again with Nikolic on the ball. France's defence steps up this time, and cannot afford another debacle here.
The French defence went to sleep there, and Fiola had far too much space. Only his second international goal for Hungary, and it could prove to be one of the most important goals he's scored in his career.
45 + 2' HUNGARY TAKE THE LEAD!! Massive, massive goal against the run of play as Attila Fiola stuns France with a brilliant finish! Roland Sallai sets it up for his teammate, and Fiola makes no mistake against Hugo Lloris. Hungary 1-0! Budapest is thrilled!
Five additional minutes here in Budapest.
43' Hungary mount an attack of their own here, and Sallai cuts in from the left. His shot smashes into his own teammate, however, and France have the ball back.
42' Hungary punt the ball forward to threaten France in the final third, but Kimpembe does very well to defuse the situation. Free-kick for France.
40' France work their way into the penalty area yet again, but Hungary step up with a literal wall of defenders. Les Bleus have improved over the course of this half, but their opponents have stood their ground.
37' Pogba with an attempt from a tight angle, the ball smashes into the side of the net. Peter Gulacsi had it covered, and Hungary survive the sustained onslaught.
36' France on the counter! Mbappe links up with Benzema, but the striker fails to find Griezmann in acres of space on the right. France still have the ball and are turning the screws here.
33' Mbappe with another chance! This one is entirely of his own making - some quick feet at the edge of the area and the space magically opens up for the winger. Mbappe takes aim but can't find the back of the net. That will go down as a miss, but Mbappe gets all the credit for some excellent work.
31' HUGE MISS! Griezmann finds Mbappe with an excellent lob into the penalty area, and the latter sets Benzema up brilliantly! The striker scuffs his shot though - should have done much better with that finish. He had only the goalkeeper to beat.
30' Good work from Fiola! The wing-back releases Nikolic on the channel but Lloris is off his lines to collect the ball. Hungary can be a threat on the counter, this is no cakewalk for France.
France's game has had its ebbs and flows today, and they haven't created as many chances as they would have liked. To their credit, Hungary have been relentless with their press.
27' Mbappe smashes the free-kick straight into the wall, and substitute Nikolic bears the brunt. He's thankfully fine, and gets to his feet immediately.
26' Nemanja Nikolic on for Adam Szalai. Worrying signs for Hungary as Szalai trudges off. Nikolic on for the Hungarians, they're taking no chances with their star striker.
Adam Szalai is down, meanwhile, and receives treatment from the medical staff. The players are off the pitch for a cooling break - it's a hot day in Budapest!
23' France win a free-kick in an excellent position, as Schafer slides into Paul Pogba.
21' Digne continues his good work on the left and finds Benzema with his header. The Real Madrid man produces a cross of his own, but Mbappe's header is not nearly as accurate.
19' Presnel Kimpembe with a terribly cynical foul on Roland Sallai there. Fortunate not to go into the referee's books.
France have created three good chances in the last five minutes, they've been fairly efficient with the ball. Hungary hold firm, however, and cannot afford to concede an early goal.
17' MBAPPE NEARLY THERE! Digne pulls off a brilliant cross from the left flank and finds Mbappe with pinpoint accuracy. The PSG striker produces a powerful header but it's a few inches on the wrong side of the far post.
15' Kante now! Surges into the box in typical fashion but is let down by one heavy touch. This is much better from France - they've survived an early onslaught and are now imposing themselves on Hungary.
14' GRIEZMANN! Benzema drives towards the area and unleashes a shot. Gulacsi gets a hand to it and saves Griezmann's follow-up, but the Frenchman is offside anyway. First chance of the game for France!
Good signs for Hungary so far. France have been on the back foot and have not been able to mount a full-fledged attack. The home crowd smells blood here, can the Magyars pull off the impossible?
10' Yellow card for Benjamin Pavard. Another attack down the left for Hungary, and Pavard is booked for his tackle. The Magyars win a free-kick and a subsequent corner, but neither can produce a chance.
9' First corner of the game for France, but Hungary striker Adam Szalai rises the highest to clear the danger.
7' Griezmann tracks back brilliantly to stop Fiola in his tracks. Hungary were on the ascendancy there and could have threatened Lloris' goal. Excellent work from the Barcelona man!
France are yet to hit their stride here and haven't seen much of the ball. The likes of Pogba, Kante, and Griezmann are important to France's control of proceedings and will need to start exerting their influence.
6' Endre Botka is down in the penalty area but there doesn't seem to be a foul. The defender receives treatment off the pitch.
5' France easily clear their lines and look to mount a counter, but it doesn't quite come to fruition. Poor free-kick from Hungary there - the Magyars pose a massive threat from set-pieces and will need to do better in these situations.
4' Hungary enjoying themselves in the opening stages. Roland Sallai runs down the left flank and draws a foul from Varane. Set-piece for the Magyars!
2' Scrappy start to the game here, France and Hungary fight for the ball near Lloris' penalty area. France eventually win the free-kick.
KICK-OFF! Hungary with the ball, attacking from left to right.
Massive round of applause for the Hungarian anthem - Budapest's full-capacity crowd can create quite an atmosphere! France might be the better team on paper but the loud walls of red all around them make for a daunting prospect.
We finally move to the Puskas Arena in Budapest, where the two teams make their way on to the pitch. Time for the national anthems!
Just over 30 minutes left for kick-off! Hungary were impressive against Portugal and only a late collapse undid all their good work. The Magyars need a miracle to get to the knock-outs this month and France are certainly not the easiest opponent.
Didier Deschamps has made only one change from the team that got the better of Germany last week, with Lucas Digne coming into the side in place of Lucas Hernandez. An attacking change, and a big statement of intent from the France manager.
Olivier Giroud misses out yet again as Benzema, Griezmann, and Mbappe make up a truly lethal forward line. Pogba and Kante predictably keep their place in the team as Rabiot beats Tolisso to a place in the side.
France have an incredible bench - probably the best at Euro 2020. Giroud, Dembele, Kounde, Tolisso, and Lemar could feature at some point in this match. If I was a Hungary fan at the Ferenc Puskas Stadium right now, I'd feel the odd shiver running down my spine.
Right, so the line-ups are here!
Hungary have predictably gone with a decidedly defensive line-up, with the likes of Willi Orban and Attila Szalai holding fort in defence. The Magyars' two-pronged attack of Roland Sallai and Adam Szalai can pack a punch but will have its work cut out against a dominant French outfit.
France Substitutes: Mike Maignan, Steve Mandanda, Leo Dubois, Corentin Tolisso, Lucas Hernandez, Jules Kounde, Thomas Lemar, Clement Lenglet, Ousmane Dembele, Marcus Thuram, Olivier Giroud, Moussa Sissoko
