16:55 (IST)16 DEC 2022

The day started with Kuldeep Yadav completing his third fifer in Tests which eventually bowled out the hosts for 150. The Indian openers, KL Rahul and Shubman Gill, diligently negated the Bangladesh bowling attack sans Ebadot Hossain. Rahul departed just after lunch but Gill and Pujara went on to record three-digit scores as India set Bangladesh for a formidable target of 513. The idea was to pick a few quick Bangladesh wickets but their openers defied KL Rahul's plans with some dogged resistance in the final 12 overs. The results of the match can be determined tomorrow itself unless Bangladesh carries the approach their openers paved the way for. Thank You Folks for joining us. We want to bid adieu for the day. Hope you liked our live scores and updates and we expect you'll to join us tomorrow for the IND vs BAN 1st Test Day 4 Live Scores and Updates. Cheers!!!

16:22 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Shubman Gill: I perosnally thought it was long time coming (maiden Test century). I was talking to Virat bhai and discussing how it's been some time since I haven't been able to get my first Test century for my team. It was about surviving early on and then cashing in. There weren't too many different thoughts. It was all about how I can get to my hundred and play according to field, depending on wherever they bowl to me. (The reverse sweep) It was very instinctive when the bowler came around the wicket.

Shubman Gill: I saw enough of a gap between point and third man. I don't really play the reverse sweep but the unconventional sweep and boundary were there for the taking. (Pacing the innings) By the time I faced 100 balls, I was at 70-72. So, it was all about pacing the innings and picking the right time to attack with the bowlers also getting tired. It means a lot to me, my family and my friends. It's a special feeling for any player and it means a lot to me.

16:18 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Zakir Hasan picked a couple of more runs on the penultimate delivery of the day as Bangladesh scored 11 runs before Ashwin closed the day with a dot ball. BAN 42/0 (12 overs) Najmul Hossain Shanto 25, Zakir Hasan 17 DAY 3 STUMPS

16:16 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Five!!! India conceded runs through overthrow as Shanto attempted to steal a risky single. Umesh Yadav missed the aim but due to lack of a backup the ball raced toward the boundary.

16:10 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Four!!! What a tremendous approach this is from the Bangladesh batters. Simply playing their regular strokes that are successfully breaching the Indian fielders. Hasan leaned forward to play the on-drive off Ashwin.

16:09 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Four!!! A delightful punch by Shanto welcome Kuldeep Yadav at the end of the day. Beats the mid-on as Bangladesh hit their fifth boundary in the innings. BAN 30/0 (11 overs) Najmul Hossain Shanto 20, Zakir Hasan 10

16:05 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Single in the final ball of Ashwin's 10th over. A great strategy from Bangladesh openers to rotate the strike to ease the dot ball pressure. BAN 26/0 (10 overs)

16:02 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Debutant Zakir looked comfortable against Ashwin, while Shanto is finding some scoring opportunities while facing Axar. Two singles in the final two balls of Axar Patel's ninth over. Three more overs left in the day. BAN 24/0 (9 overs)

15:57 (IST)16 DEC 2022

India have introduced Axar Patel to bowl the spinners in tandem for the last five overs to build pressure on the two left-handers.

15:56 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Zakir Hasan read well to those tossed up variations off Ashwin. Some brisk footwork helped him to score a boundary with a stupendous slap.

15:51 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Four!!! Shanto glanced away for a boundary toward fine leg. Shanto is enduring a tough run against Siraj who is peppering the southpaw with his nasty short deliveries. BAN 15/0 (5 overs)

15:47 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Four!!! Zakir Hasan swept off Ravichandran Ashwin toward backward square leg but another misfield allows Bangladesh their second boundary in the innings. BAN 10/0 (4 overs)

15:45 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Four!!! Shanto swivelled pull for a boundary off the short ball by Siraj. A misfield by Kuldeep Yadav costed those extra runs.

15:38 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Bangladesh need 513 runs to win in two days and just half of the session left on the third day with 10 wickets in hand. A chase would only create history less than anything else.

15:22 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Four!!! Test century No.19 for Cheteshwar Pujara, perhaps his fastest, wait for us to confirm about the last bite. A flick past the mid-on was the shot to end the century drought of the veteran after 51 Test innings since he last scored against Australia in January 2019.

Pujara scored his second fifty in the innings in just 43 balls with some agrressive strokes against the Bangladesh spinners. Indian skipper KL Rahul was waiting for the moment in order to declare the innings as India gain a massive lead of 512 runs. IND 258/2 (61.4 overs) Shubman Gill 110, Cheteshwar Pujara 102*; Khaled Ahmed 1/51; Mehidy Hasan Miraz 1/82

15:08 (IST)16 DEC 2022

A quick fact follks. This is Pujara's sixth innings against Bangladesh in Tests since 2017. The Saurashtra player has managed 50-plus score in each of his innings vs Bangladesh. Pujara vs Bangladesh innings wise -

15:05 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Four!!! Pujara has been just unbelievable right after scoring his fifty or maybe after Shubman Gill's wicket. Bent firmly and swept it beautifully to beat the short fine leg for a boundary. A big opportunity for the veteran to end his century drought. IND 245/2 (59 overs) Shubman Gill 110; Khaled Ahmed 1/51

14:54 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Cheteshwar Pujara has all of a sudden switched his gears. The big shots from the Saurashtra player's blade are all around the corner after Gill's departure. Five boundaries have been tonked against Bangladesh spinners - Mehidy and Taijul Islam, in the recent overs. IND 217/2 Shubman Gill 110, Khaled Ahmed 1/51

14:47 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Shubman Gill holed out to the substitute fielder Mahmudul Hasan Joy who slided forward from the boundary area at mid wicket to grab a spectacular catch to end the innings of the centurion. Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked his first wicket in the innings. IND 198/2 (52 overs) Shubman Gill 110; Khaled Ahmed 1/51

14:34 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Hundred!!! That's a maiden century for the 23-year-old. Dances down the track and cleared the mid on to bring the boundary in a remarkable fashion. He bows down after removing his helmet to celebrate his Test hundred and earned applause from his teammates in the dugout and dressing room.

14:29 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Four!!! A reverse sweep off Mehidy takes Shubman to 99. Just one run short from his maiden Test three-figure mark.

14:24 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Strike rotation is how the two batters nearing their century and half-century are taking it forward with minimal risk involvement. IND 163/1 (47 overs) Shubman Gill 95; Khaled Ahmed 1/51

14:23 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Shubman Gill is inching closer to his maiden Test hundred after moving into the nervous nineties. Pujara would be the best person to understand what exactly is going into a young Gill's mind. The veteran should chip in and guide his partner on approaching his next few runs. IND 162/1 (46 overs) Shubman Gill 94; Khaled Ahmed 1/51

13:56 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Session Summary - Overs: 24 Runs: 104  Wickets: 1  Run Rate: 4.33

13:48 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Tea session: India have just lost skipper KL Rahul after the lunch but Cheteshwar Pujara (33*) and Gill (80*) were solid to build the Indian innings even though the DRS thing eluded Bangladesh for a close LBW call against the latter. IND 140/1 (39 overs) Shubman Gill 80; Khaled Ahmed 1/51

13:14 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Bangladesh players are shell-shocked to learn that they won't be able use the DRS facility. Yasir Ali pinned Shubman Gill in front of the pads with a good length delivery. The loud appeal was turned down by the onfield umpire. Shakib Al Hasan sent the LBW call for upstairs but to their dismay, the DRS was down due to techincal glitch from the broadcaster and there were no checks for the appeal. As a result, Gill survived at the crease.

13:12 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Four!!! A floated up delivery from Taijul Islam and Gill swept it through the square leg even though Mushfiqur Rahim sprinted to stop the ball but a quick touch from foot failed the effort.

13:06 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Four!!!! Pujara cracks this as he pulled Khaled's erred line down the leg behind a boundary. What a shot to watch from one of the best Test batters in the world.

13:01 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Don't know for what reason is Ebadot Hossain being hold. Like if Khaled is attempting his short ball ploy from one end, Ebadot could test with his sheer pace from the other end.

12:52 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Khaeld overstepped in the 27th over. Second time for the left-arm pacer as he concede another no-ball.

12:50 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Six!!!! Gill pulled Khaled's short delivery to clear the ropes over backward sqaure leg for a six. Khaled is pursuing with the short balls but Gill says not against me mate.

12:48 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Gill hits a crackling sweep shot off Mehidy Hasan Miraz for a boundary. IND 83/1 (26 overs) Shubman Gill 55; Khaled Ahmed 1/39

12:46 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Four!!! Shubman is on fire with his intensity on full mode.

12:40 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Opportunity for Pujara to finish his task of scoring a three-figure score. He missed by 10 runs in the last innings. His approach should bog down the Bangladesh bowlers.

12:24 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Bangladesh finds their first wicket as Khaled Ahmed gets KL Rahul who was caught by Taijul Islam at fine leg in a pursuit of playing a swivel shot. Rahul departs on 23 after playing a well composed knock for more than a hour. Khaled's persistency with the short ball has paid dividends to Bangladesh. IND 70/1 (23 overs) Shubman Gill 44; Khaled Ahmed 1/37

12:11 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Ahh that was close. Khaled banged a short ball around KL Rahul's left shoulder. The Indian skipper was almost about to pull and nearly escaped an edge. There was a slight surprise for both the batter and the bowler after the delivery.

12:04 (IST)16 DEC 2022

A quick fact for you folks. The current stand between Rahul and Gill is India's highest opening partnership for India in Tests in 2022. The previous best was 52 by Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal in the first innings of the Mohali Test against Sri Lanka in March.

11:59 (IST)16 DEC 2022

50 partnership for Rahul and Gill. Must say they are determined to play a big role in setting a humungous target for Shakib and his men. Maybe you won't see Ashwin and Kuldeep bat again in this innings. Nonchalant efforts by the Indian openers to boost up their confidence after failing to convert good starts in their last innings.

11:56 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Khaled Ahmed overstepped in the 19th over as the umpire signalled for a no-ball. No folks there isn't any free hit here. Not your white-ball advantage.

11:54 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Four!!! Gill hits his first boundary in the innings. A full length ball from Khaled Ahmed was carved uppishly between the gully and point for four runs. The prodigious batter followed up with a good amount of wrist work to play the sweep against Taijul Islam for another boundary in the next over. IND 48/0 (18 overs) Shubman Gill 26 KL Rahul 21

11:50 (IST)16 DEC 2022

There is more than instincts what KL Rahul is following at the moment for shot selection. He keeps the bat in the middle of the off and middle stump and a bit tad lift movement. Rahul waits for the ball before purely backing his feeling to play the shot through the covers or point. Remarkable.

11:42 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Bangladesh maybe need Ebadot, who is yet to bowl for the hosts in this innings, to strike for them just like Siraj did for India in the afternoon yesterday. The 28-year-old pace bowler has a lot of potential and the way he cleaned up Shreyas Iyer in the first innings. Shakib should try and get out the adequate results from him.

11:26 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Session Summary: Runs 53 Wickets: 2 4s: 5 6s: 0

11:18 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Instances when India didn't pushed the follow-on after massive lead in the first innings - (Virat Kohli was captain in the last five instances)

vs New Zealand - 2021 (lead by 263 runs)
vs West Indies - 2019 (lead by 299 runs)
vs Australia - 2018 (lead by 292 runs)
vs Sri Lanka - 2017 (lead by 309 runs)
vs Bangladesh - 2017 (lead by 299 runs)

11:09 (IST)16 DEC 2022

A session safely negated by the Indian openers against Taijul Islam particularly. KL Rahul was more watchful with the ball turning in at the last moment. The stand-in skipper would want to play a big knock from here on. Shakib will persist with Taijul in terms of breaking the stand. Maybe the Bangladesh skipper should think of rolling his own arms to ease the workload on his two spinners.

11:03 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Four!!!.Finally there is a boundary after 81 balls in this innings. And once again the batter is KL Rahul only. Rahul leaned back to open the face of his bat as he caressed through the cover point off Mehidy for a boundary.  And that's lunch break for India on Day 3. IND 36/0 KL Rahul 20, Shubman Gill 15

10:57 (IST)16 DEC 2022

There was some appeal from the Bangladesh fielders for LBW against Shubman Gill but to no effect. The ball was missing the leg stump. Taijul is bowling some tight lines in a pursuit of a breakthrough.

10:48 (IST)16 DEC 2022

India is likely to frustrate the Bangladesh bowlers for the whole third day if the likes of Pujara and Kohli follow the path of Rahul-Gill. Pure Test cricket mate?

10:39 (IST)16 DEC 2022

The decision to not enforce the follow-on will enough justice if KL Rahul or Virat Kohli posts a great individual score here to overcome the criticism around their lack of runs in the red-ball format. It has particularly came in the spotlight after failing to add any impact in the first innings in this Test.

10:32 (IST)16 DEC 2022

Indian openers are just clinging on to patience. No rush for shots. Just settle on the crease and punish the erred lengths. Perhaps they want to walk off the session without losing any wicket.
