Candles can be found in naturally generated structures such as ancient cities, or you can craft some on your own. To pick up naturally generated candles you will have to break them with any tool, or you can use your bare hands. To craft a candle you will need some string and honeycombs. You have to simply place both items on a crafting table and make sure to place the string above the honeycomb.

To make a dyed candle you will need to take the dye of your choice and place it next to a candle in the crafting grid.

The most common use of candles is as a light source. A single candle will produce a light level of 3 but up to 4 can be placed on a single block for a maximum light level of 12 to be achieved. When multiple candles are placed together they will have to be of the same color. When placed, they will not be lit. To light them you will have to use either flint and steel or a fire charge. To extinguish a candle you will have to use either water or right-click them. You can even place a candle on top of a cake, and when the cake is eaten, the candle will drop as an item and can be picked up.

Candles are a welcome addition to the game, they allow players to be more creative in terms of how they light their surroundings. This item is loved by creative builders as it can convey a lot of different moods that regular torches were unable to. Throw in the numerous color options for the candle and you have a customizable light source for decoration.
