Adrien Broner has partnered with one of the most controversial figures in boxing history.

'The Problem' has been out of the ring since a controversial decision victory over Jovanie Santiago in February 2021. That night, many felt that Broner didn't deserve the nod, but he got the win anyway. Since then, it feels like the universe is out to get the former champion.

Following that decision victory, the former titleholder left Showtime Boxing. While he was with the promotion for nearly a decade but was presented with a massive offer from the upstart BLK Prime company. The promotion recently signed Terence Crawford as well.

However, the partnership between Adrien Broner and BLK Prime was brief. The promotion was scheduled for three different matchups for the former champion, with all three opponents withdrawing. After multiple cancelations, the two parted ways.

The former champion has been quiet on his return, until now. Broner announced via press release that he had signed with Don King. The longtime promoter is one of the most controversial figures in the sport and has represented names like Mike Tyson.

In a press release, King stated that the signing was just the first of many potential acquisitions. He was quoted as saying:

“Adrien is ready and excited to show his championship skills once again for the delight of the great boxing fans. As his proud promoter drops the gauntlet to all the other promoters and challenges them to bring forth their best fighters to [meet] fight superstar bad boy of boxing Adrien Broner. Bob Arum, Frank Warren, Al Haymon, Eddie Hearn, and any other promoter with a hot commodity champion, we welcome them all."

Adrien Broner discusses his return

While some might be concerned about his recent signing, Adrien Broner is ready to get back to work.

It's unfortunate that the signing with BLK Prime didn't work out, as 'The Problem' appeared to be in his best shape in years. Broner worked with coach Kevin Cunningham and seemed to be shredded.

Ultimately, three scheduled matchups fell through for the former champion, but he was undeterred. In a press release announcing his signing with Don King, Adrien Broner discussed his return.

Broner stated that he was planning on returning to the ring to win gold. He said:

“I have a fantastic camp with Kevin Cunningham, and I can hardly wait to get back into the ring again. Winning a world title and constantly defending or unifying the titles is what I am aiming to do.”
