Bellator 233 Main Card

Tyrell Fortune vs Azu Anyanwu

Tyrell Fortune headed into this fight at 7-0, while Anyanwu was 15-5. Round one saw Anyanwu take the center with the two sizing each other up. Fortune connected half-way through the fight in the round, after a very slow start. Fortune hit a couple of combos and leg kicks to end the round in his favor.

The second round saw them trade strikes early in the round. He hit Anyanwu with a hard right some time into the second round. He followed it up with yet another shot. The fight was over from there, although Fortune was able to get in a knee, a kick, and another right hand, before the fight officially had to be stopped. The referee had to warn Fortune as he did not stop when the referee stepped in immediately.

Result: Tyrell Fortune def. Azunna Anyanwu via TKO (strikes) (Round 2, 1 minute and 56 seconds)

Leslie Smith vs Arlene Blencowe

The second fight of the main card saw Blencowe start fast and throw a few jabs and leg kicks. Blencowe consistently attacks the legs and the body, but they clinched up.

They had to be broken up and Smith continued to go for the takedown and kept pushing Blencowe against the fence. They traded with only a few seconds to go, and Smith connected a good elbow. That first round was mostly Smith.

The second round did not go the same way.

Blencowe dominated the MMA fight early on with some crazy strong leg kicks. Smith came back with rights, kicks, and body kicks. She managed to get in a couple of good combos and landed a big left head kick. From there Blencowe went wild with two jabs and then a leg kick. A flurry by Smith ended this round. Despite appearing to get more action in this round, Smith did not get the round, as it was more Blencowe.

Finally, in the third round, Blencowe fended off each takedown attempt by Smith as if it were nothing. She avoided a leg trip and a knee and came with a high kick. They traded some heavy shots as the fight came to an end with Blencowe being the one who got more offense in the final round of the Bellator fight.

Results: Arlene Blencowe def. Leslie Smith via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

'King Mo' Muhammed Lawal vs Andrew Kapel

King Mo had made it clear that the fight might have been his last and that he had no problem putting over younger talent on his way out of the Octagon. Kicks from Kapel saw Mo back up. Lawal missed the left hook and went for the body. Kapel hit a body kick, which Lawal caught, but it was to his detriment. He got rocked with two right hands and that was it.

Results: Andrew Kapel def. 'King Mo' Muhammed Lawal via KO (1 minute and 22 seconds)

Following the fight, King Mo confirmed that was indeed his last fight and laid his gloves in the middle of the Octagon. He is far from done with MMA, however, as he will be teaching the youth about the sport.

John Salter vs Costello van Steenis

The first round of the MMA main event saw Salter mostly dominate, in what was quite the slow start. The two clinched for a long time and found themselves against the fence. Salter was able to hurt him with a few strikes, but van Steenis also showed what he was made of, by standing up from the submission attempt. He was able to get a submission attempt of his own in, with the Front Guillotine, but Salter reversed and got the hook in throwing rights.

The second round saw more of the same, with the fight going to the ground fast. Salter was able to go for the Rear Naked Choke and had his hooks in, but Costello defended well and managed to get out of it.

They got up in the last minute of the round, but it appeared that Costello was extremely tired. Salter took him down again and tried a choke, with his domination in this round evident once again.

The third round saw Salter a lot more tired after all the ground work and was caught with a kick in the solar plexus, having to clinch to catch his breath. He tried to get a triangle, but was unable to pull it off. Salter went for another takedown and got it in the final two minutes of the fight.

Salter was able to last out the fight and took the Bellator third round as well.

Results: John Salter defeated Costello van Steenis via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
