Fans debate if they would pay instead of illegally stream should the UFC reduce PPV price to $30

MMA fans have been debating whether or not they'd be more inclined to pay for UFC events if the prices were ever slashed in half.

The debate comes after it was recently announced that ESPN were upping their price from $74.99 to $79.99 for pay-per-views, which will be in effect from January. The annual $99.99 subscription fee for ESPN+ members won't be affected by the change.

Reddit user @Blackontheattack addressed MMA fans who usually illegally stream events and asked them whether the UFC halving its current pay-per-view price would persuade them to purchase the product.

One fan responded by admitting that they will always opt for the "free" version, despite it being illegal:

"Nope free is free and $30 is more than free."

One user added that they'd be more than willing to pay a total subscription package fee of $20, but it must include all events, including past pay-per-views:

"I would pay $20 a month for all the PPVs and the backlog of fights that the UFC owns the rights to."

Reddit user @jumpmanw123 stated that they'd be willing to pay $30 for the big events but would like to see improvements to fighter pay before they start buying pay-per-views:

"Yes, probably for the huge events but I'm also gonna need to see Dana start doing a little bit more for fighter pay before I am consistently buying PPV."

UFC president Dana White pushing for more international fight cards across 2023

To go along with ESPN's decision to increase the price of pay-per-views, Dana White is looking to expand the organization's market even more. The 53-year-old is hoping to make 2023 their biggest year in terms of international travel and events.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil plays host to the first pay-per-view event of 2023, UFC 283. The main event of the January 21 fight card pits Brazilian veteran Glover Teixeira against Jamahal Hill for the vacant light heavyweight title.

Discussing the promotion and its plans for 2023 in an interview with ESPN MMA, Dana White suggested that next year could be the biggest year whilst also alluding to Africa as a potential destination:

"We need to start traveling around and do what we did to build this business... And to go into places we haven't been [like] Africa... Lot of places we haven't been in a while. I'm excited to get back to South Korea, I'm excited to get into Australia, get back to Canada."
