Kevin Holland received a lot of plaudits for the role he played in the barn burner bout with Stephen Thompson. But he was forced to call out Derek Brunson on social media following the middleweight's comments after the fight on Saturday.

Serving as the main event for a stacked Fight Night card, the 170lb brawl didn't disappoint as the pair of strikers put on a display that will not be easily forgotten.

While many loved watching Holland's clash against Stephen Thompson, Derek Brunson was less than impressed. He chose to mock Holland's decisions throughout the matchup, saying:

"Kevin Holland the type of guy who’d try to out-moonwalk Michael Jackson, Kevin Holland the type of guy who’d try to out-sing Beyoncé... Kevin Holland the type of guy who’d try out-kickbox a 50-0 kickboxer."

The comments didn't go down well with the Texan. 'Trailblazer' made it clear by insisting he's the type of guy to move back up to middleweight just to "smack that blonde head around":

"Yes, yes, and yes. First good tweet you ever made. [I'm] also the type of guy to come back up a weight class and smack that blonde head around. I’d be doing it just for the fans though... Like always."

Last time out, Brunson saw his impressive five-fight win streak come to an end when he was finished with vicious elbows in his title eliminator bout against Jared Cannonier. The 38-year-old wrestler remains focused on his championship aspirations. However, he will likely have to overcome the odds in a middleweight division stacked with killers.

The Kevin Holland vs. Derek Brunson feud

It is approaching two years since Derek Brunson was able to outwork Kevin Holland and grind out a decision. But the 185'er makes sure to remind his former opponent exactly what happened when the two met inside the octagon.

The former Strikeforce veteran was frustrated throughout the fight. He was unable to get his opponent out of there despite managing to control the ground game. Due to Holland's successful takedown and his constant talking, Brunson took the bout personally and, as previously mentioned, always opts to bring it up to the fan-favorite at any chance he gets.

Although nothing is official, we could potentially see these two go at it again sometime in the future. The bout could be a high-profile rematch with major implications on the line.
