Alexander Volkanovski shares how long he wants to keep fighting

Alexander Volkanovski reveals how long he wants to keep on fighting
UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski

Alexander Volkanovski is currently 34 years old, an age at which many fighters are beginning to slow down. But 'The Great' has gone from strength to strength in each of his last 8 UFC fights and doesn't plan on calling time on his career in the near future.

'The Great' believes he is at the peak of his powers right now and wants to maximize the amount of time he has in the cage during his best fighting years. The featherweight champion recently stated on Straight Talk with Mark Bouris that he would love to keep fighting until 2030, but cannot guarantee that it will happen.

Alexander Volkanovski said this:

"Right now, I'll tell ya, I'm all good. Me being at my peak, experiencing everything [over the past few years] and knowledge, it's all coming at the perfect time. That's why I want to capitalize. If I can do this for another 7 years, sweet. But is that likely? I don't know. Right now I feel like I could definitely do it for another few years... Right now is where I'm gonna make the most money I can, doing what I'm doing."

Alexander Volkanovski has stated that he wants to fight three times this year. 'The Great' will be eyeing another defense of his featherweight title against interim-champion Yair Rodriguez, should an immediate rematch with Islam Makhachev not materialize.

Rodriguez won the interim title at UFC 284, the same event where Volkanovski took on Islam Makhachev for the lightweight title. 'The Great' was defeated for the first time in his UFC career, as the Dagestani won via a unanimous decision.

Yair Rodriguez wants to face Alexander Volkanovski in September; 'The Great' is eyeing June or July

Alexander Volkanovski is likely to move back down to featherweight for his next fight to take on Yair Rodriguez. 'El Pantera' is currently the interim-featherweight champion after he defeated Josh Emmett via submission at UFC 284.

Following his win, Rodriguez stated that he would like to face Volkanovski in Mexico City in September to unify the title. However, 'The Great' wants to fight more than twice this year, and has circled International Fight Week as a potential date.

International Fight Week usually takes place in either June or July, an ideal time for Alexander Volkanovski.

'The Great' recently uploaded a video to his YouTube channel, and said this:

" I'm ready to go, when is [Yair] ready to go? Come on man, don't make me wait until that long, I want to fight, I'm hoping to fight three times this year. International Fight Week mate. Maybe we headline International Fight Week or something, what do you reckon Yair? I want to be active."
