Allycia Hellen Rodrigues credited her family and teammates with her successful return to the Circle on Friday night.

After more than two years on the sidelines during the pregnancy and the birth of her baby boy, Rodrigues made her triumphant return at ONE Fight Night 8 on Prime Video, reestablishing herself as the queen of women’s atomweight Muay Thai.

Following her unanimous decision victory over Janet Todd, Rodrigues credited her family and her team with allowing her to come back and keep her belt in the process.

“I feel amazing,” Rodrigues said during a post-fight interview. “I have a lot of support from my family and my team. I know if I work hard and I can come back and keep my belt with me.”

Allycia Hellen Rodrigues’ victory over Janet Todd was incredibly impressive given the circumstances. Not only did she not miss a beat after a lengthy 31-month absence, but he also put herself in a prime position to become a two-division ONE world champion.

Having walked through ‘JT’ on Friday night in a Muay Thai clash, Rodrigues has every intention of running it back with Todd, but this time it will be the American’s ONE atomweight kickboxing world championship on the line. No official announcement has been made regarding the promotion at this time, but Rodrigues vs. Todd with 8oz gloves certainly makes a lot of sense given the way things played out between the two at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Allycia Hellen Rodrigues drew inspiration from Angela Lee making her own comeback

Coming back to any sport after a multi-year layoff is incredibly difficult. This difficulty is only compounded by a major life-changing event that affects one's mind and body.

Allycia Hellen Rodrigues knows a thing or two about it, returning to the Circle after the birth of her first child. Fortunately, Rodrigues had someone she could look to for inspiration while fighting her way back to combat sports’ global stage.

“You know how hard it is to come back from that situation, and I am inspired by Angela Lee. I saw the way she came back and how she kept the belt with her. I want to do the same and inspire people the way Angela inspired me.”

Reigning atomweight queen Angela Lee faced her own two-and-a-half-year layoff, giving birth to her daughter. ‘Unstoppable’ made her return to the Circle in March 2022 at ONE X and immediately lived up to her nickname, scoring a second-round submission of Stamp Fairtex to retain her atomweight world title.
