Anthony Smith laughs off his take on Jon Jones getting twisted

Anthony Smith recently took to Twitter to clarify an opinion about Jon Jones that he shared in an interview and its subsequent reporting.

In a recent interview with Morning Kombat, Smith spoke about his loss to Jones at UFC 235 and the former champion's skills in the octagon.

After the interview was covered by MMA Mania, Smith was unhappy with the way his words were reported. 'Lionheart' clarified his position on Jones and posted a tweet stating his amusement at the way media outlets chose to report on his interview:

"We’re gonna disregard the rest of the convo where I go on to talk about why he’s great and what makes him elite? Love mma media sometimes…"

Anthony Smith last fought at UFC 277, losing to Magomed Ankalaev via TKO in the second round. The light heavyweight contender suffered a broken ankle during the fight.

Jon Jones was last seen in the octagon in 2020 at UFC 247. He defeated Dominick Reyes via unanimous decision in a hotly contested five-round war. 'Bones' is expected to make his return to the octagon soon, with his sights set on moving up to heavyweight and facing either Francis Ngannou or Stipe Miocic.

Jon Jones' coach believes in his pupil's ability to triumph over Francis Ngannou

Jon Jones' coach Brandon Gibson is confident in the former UFC light heavyweight champion's ability to beat Francis Ngannou and Stipe Miocic whenever the 35-year-old chooses to make his return to the octagon.

In an interview with Submission Radio, Gibson was asked about Jones' chances against the two heavyweight fighters. He stated:

"Jon Jones has the skill set to get his hand raised in both of those bouts [against Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou]. There’s no doubt in my mind about it. There’s nobody like Jon at heavyweight. Nobody is as dynamic, as fast, as gifted in all disciplines as Jon is. His IQ is off the charts. Not to say that these other guys aren’t smart, brilliant fighters, but Jon Jones’ IQ and comprehension of his game is unlike anybody else’s in the world."

'Bones' may make his highly anticipated comeback in 2023 according to Dana White, with the UFC president hoping for a championship fight against Francis Ngannou. In an interview, White confirmed plans to make that matchup a reality.

However, due to the heavyweight champion's contract issues with the promotion and knee surgery, there is a possibility that Jones could end up facing either Ciryl Gane or Curtis Blaydes instead.
