It appears as though Darren Till is set to become a free agent after recently being removed from the UFC roster.

The former UFC welterweight title challenger is coming off a loss to Dricus Du Plessis, which saw him have his moments and success with his elbows before the rising South African middleweight contender regrouped and submitted him in the third round.

Following the bout, Till could be heard telling UFC octagon announcer Bruce Buffer that he believed he had torn his ACL. He has had bad luck with injuries, which has resulted in him being forced to pull out of fights.

'The Gorilla' was a highly touted welterweight prospect when he joined the UFC in 2015. He quickly ascended the rankings and eventually challenged Tyron Woodley for the welterweight championship at UFC 228. He had an unbeaten 17-0-1 MMA record at the time but came up short as Woodley submitted him in the second round to retain his title.

Darren Till was on a losing skid prior to being removed from the roster

Prior to being removed from the UFC roster, Darren Till was on a three-fight skid that included losses to Dricus Du Plessis, Derek Brunson, and former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker.

Since his loss to Tyron Woodley, the former welterweight title challenger has gone 1-4 in the five fights that followed. At the time, a move up to 185lbs was expected to lead to positive results as he wouldn't be cutting as much weight, but his only win in the division came via a split decision over Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 244.

'The Gorilla' earned a post-fight bonus for Fight of the Night in his loss to Du Plessis, which led fans to believe that he might receive another opportunity to snap his losing skid. But that wasn't the case and he will now be entering free agency.

It will be interesting to see whether Bellator attempts to sign him as he can help bolster their cards when they host events in London.
