Earlier this year, Kevin Lee announced he had re-signed with the UFC and would begin putting plans into motion for a title surge, and it now seems the popular athlete has gotten his first assignment.

'The Motown Phenom' revealed that he will return to the octagon and compete in the welterweight division, despite having a large amount of success at lightweight during his first run in the UFC. Numerous names have been mentioned for his next fight, but it seems like the chance to avenge his 2017 loss most appeals to him.

During a recent interview, Kevin Lee revealed that talks are progressing for a fight between himself and Tony Ferguson, claiming that UFC 290 in July is the most likely destination for the rematch.

"It's looking like we're gonna do Tony. Me and Tony Ferguson, a lot of people are calling for that fight, they wanna see the rematch. I feel like it's gonna right a whole bunch of wrongs that happened in 2017 and it's gonna put me right back on the right track. I feel like that's the fight that people wanna see. It's a great fight for Tony, it's a great fight for me, I think it's a great fight for the UFC... I think it's only right that we run it back. We're gonna do International Fight Week is what I'm hearing."

According to the 30-year-old, USADA is keen to insert the former interim title challenger into their six-month testing pool before allowing him to fight for the company again, opening up a potential return in July.

Kevin Lee vs. Tony Ferguson and other rumored fights for UFC 290

International Fight Week is often filled with an abundance of high-level matchups, and it seems this year will be no different as the UFC is planning another blockbuster event on July 8.

Alongside the rumored Kevin Lee vs. Tony Ferguson fight, reports are suggesting that Jon Jones will put his newly acquired heavyweight title on the line for the first time against Stipe Miocic at UFC 290.

While a 'Bones' championship clash is huge, the promotion is aiming to make the event even more iconic by placing the featherweight title unification bout as the co-headliner when Alexander Volkanovski takes on Yair Rodriguez.
