Chael Sonnen believes former UFC fighter Nate Diaz might make a return to the promotion.

Diaz last fought Tony Ferguson at UFC 279 in what was the last fight of his UFC contract. The Stockton native secured a submission victory against 'El Cucuy,' thus completing his 15-year journey in the promotion. The fighter has been a free agent since the last bout against Ferguson.

In an appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Chael Sonnen predicted that Diaz might make a return to the UFC to fight his old nemesis, Conor McGregor. However, 'The American Gangsta' did not rule out the Californian fighting Jake Paul, saying:

"You want to know what Nate Diaz is going to do next? When I tell you unknown, what I’m trying to say is all options are on the table, but that option is also to return to the UFC and to fight Conor McGregor. That’s not just gone now, and it has to be Jake Paul or Floyd Mayweather and he’s got to go start his own promotion."
“Those things are all possibilities, but a return is also on the table; in fact, I think it’s leading the charge of what’s possible for Nate Diaz...He would not just be coming back. There would be a brand new and fresh conversation to be had and I think he wants to have that conversation. Yeah, I think it’s leading the way."

Chael Sonnen weighs in on Conor McGregor and Jon Jones' UFC return in 2023

Jon Jones was last seen in the octagon back in early 2020. Meanwhile, Conor McGregor has also been out of the cage since his brutal injury at UFC 264.

'Bones' has been teasing a comeback determined to capture the heavyweight crown. The Irishman, on the other hand, is also eyeing a comeback. With that being the case, many are expecting the two superstars to make their comebacks next year.

Weighing in on the situation, Chael Sonnen recently gave his thoughts on who, according to him, would make the comeback first. Appearing in a recent interview with Mike Bohn, 'The American Gangster' said:

"They're in very different spots, right? Jon Jones is a prize fighter, he hasn't fought in a long time. He needs the prize. He needs to fight. Conor McGregor wants to fight. I think that that's a meaningful difference. I would go, though, with Jon Jones (returning first)."
