Conor McGregor is in a stand-off with his longtime friend Artem Lobov over his Irish whiskey company, Proper No. Twelve.

Lobov sued McGregor for five percent of McGregor's sale of his majority stake in Proper No. Twelve to Proximo Spirits. The deal was worth a reported $600 million, of which Lobov is seeking $30 million.

Former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen weighed in on the friction between the two and cited his suspicion that external influence over Lobov pushed him to sue his old friend:

"And I trust, as Artem, being an intelligent guy and I'm suspecting that somebody else threw their arms around him and helped to convince him of Conor's wrongdoing. Also, looked into it, and thought the scheduled amount should you get to a jury for the jurisdiction they're in is five percent so this is where we go. So he hasn't made a demand, at least not publically, of say, 30 millions dollars. I'm saying five percent, I'm also the one that's saying 600 million dollars. But he wants five percent of whatever it was and he's decided that's a lot more than a million dollars."

Sonnen then explained the complications that Conor McGregor caused by offering Lobov a million dollars for his work on the company:

"Now, from a legal standpoint, this does get complicated. 'Cause the majority of you will see it the exact same way I saw it, which is, 'Wow, Conor, that was a cool move, man. That was a cool move to bring your buddy a million dollars.' The attorneys of Artem can use that very check and they could put a different interpretation on it. Which is, Conor knew, legally, he owes you something."
