At ONE 164, Jarred Brooks once again backed up all of his talk with his performance inside the circle. In the main event on Saturday, the American defeated the previously dominant Joshua Pacio via unanimous decision to become the new ONE strawweight world champion.
Brooks proved to be a tough matchup for Pacio and was able to negate a lot of the Filipino star’s offense throughout the fight. Whilst Jarred Brooks was able to secure several takedowns and show off his superior grappling ability, he was also able to strike with the Team Lakay fighter and get the better of the exchanges.
Though he came into the fight playing the role of a villain in front of Pacio’s home fans in Manila, Brooks left the cage with a lot of respect put on his name thanks to his display in the fight.
It was an impressive performance from ‘The Monkey God’ that earned him some praise from ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong in his post-event press conference:
“Jarred Brooks is the man. He’s the best strawweight on the planet. He proved it tonight. Ultra close fight, I’m sure they’re going to rematch in the future.”
Whilst Brooks is targeting a fight against ONE flyweight world champion Demetrious Johnson, Pacio posted on social media to say that he will be back better than ever after losing his world championship.

At ONE 164, Jarred Brooks picked up the biggest win of his career to become the new ONE strawweight world champion. With a unanimous decision win, Brooks defeated Joshua Pacio, who had dominated the division through his three consecutive title defenses.
Though he came into the fight with a lot of trash talk, Brooks was able to once again back up all of his talk with his performance inside the circle. ‘The Monkey God’ proved to be a tough opponent for Pacio, who was unable to land his explosive striking consistently.
In the build-up to the fight, Jarred Brooks had already started to talk about what he would do after becoming the strawweight king. Looking for even bigger and better challenges before facing Pacio, Brooks had mentioned the name of the world champion in the weight class above.
Showing respect to Demetrious Johnson, who he is a big fan of, Brooks once again asked for a fight with him in his post-fight interview before ‘Mighty Mouse’ calls time on his career.
