At ONE on Prime Video 4, Christian Lee showed exactly why he is called ‘The Warrior’. With an incredible display of heart and determination, Lee produced one of the biggest comebacks of the year to become a two-division world champion.

After enduring a nightmarish first round, Lee started to chip away at the former welterweight world champion Kiamrian Abbasov, who looked to have gassed himself out trying to finish his opponent. By the fourth round, Abbasov‘s tank was completely empty and Christian Lee kept on pushing, eventually finding the finish that he deserved.

In his post-fight interview, Christian Lee spoke about the support system that he has in place, which keeps him motivated every single day in the gym and when fights get tough:

“I don't think that there's a way you could put that on one person. I give credit to everybody around me. Of course, my parents started me off on this journey. I started training in martial arts from a very young age at the time I could walk. And so of course it helped, coming from a martial arts family. Then, my wife, we've been together for as long as I can remember, since high school before I started fighting. She's been such a key role in all of my success. I owe everything to her. And my baby girl when she was just born, she's the biggest motivating factor that I could have. Just every day.”

He added:

“When I step into the gym, every day I step in here into the ring, I know that I'm fighting to provide for my family. So just everything. Everybody around me is a positive influence and I'm grateful for the support system that I have.”

“I'm competitive in both divisions” - Christian Lee feels as strong at welterweight as he does at lightweight

Christian Lee wasn’t too affected by the 15-pound weight difference between lightweight and welterweight at ONE on Prime Video 4.

A big talking point going into Lee’s bid for double champion status was the size difference between ‘The Warrior’ and his opponent Kiamrian Abbasov. Despite there being a clear advantage in this department for the former welterweight world champion, it didn’t change the outcome of the fight.

Whilst Lee faced a lot of adversity in the opening round, he was still able to take Abbasov’s best punches, and this led to the bigger man getting tired first, allowing Lee to push the pace later on in the fight.

In the end, it was the heart and toughness of Christian Lee that proved to be the difference.

Sharing his thoughts in his post-fight interview, Lee spoke about how he felt competing at welterweight:

“I felt great fighting at welterweight and it's very similar to fighting at lightweight. In the lightweight division, you have a roster full of very tough opponents. At welterweight, it's much of the same, except that they are 15 pounds heavier. For me, I feel that I'm competitive in both divisions, and I plan on doing so for the next few fights.”
