Francis Ngannou is now a free agent as the former UFC heavyweight champion was unable to reach a deal with the UFC to extend his contract.

Conor McGregor's coach, John Kavanagh, shared that he believes Ngannou may receive life-changing money to do a crossover boxing match against WBC Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury.

In a post shared on his Twitter account, Kavanagh stated:

"So what's next for #francisngannou ? Can any MMA org compete with ufc in terms of pay? Is it a one off mega fight with #tysonfurey ? Certainly $30m or whatever it would be is retirement money by any standards. Well bar one guy 😅"

While Ngannou has not announced the next step in his career, he and Fury teased a potential boxing match in 2022. Although nothing has come to fruition, it is possible that the two will be able to negotiate now that the former is no longer under contract with the UFC.

Ngannou will likely be in line to receive the biggest payday of his professional combat sports career if he faces Fury.

Dana White claims the UFC offered to make Francis Ngannou the highest-paid heavyweight in promotional history

UFC Fight Night 217 was filled with plenty of news and announcements, but perhaps no story is bigger than Jon Jones making his comeback at UFC 285.

Shockingly, he will face Ciryl Gane instead of Francis Ngannou as UFC President Dana White confirmed that its reigning heavyweight champion is no longer with the promotion and will be stripped of his title.

The UFC frontman claimed that Ngannou was offered record-setting money. However, he turned down the offer.

Speaking at the post-fight press conference, White stated:

"We offered Francis a deal that would have made him the highest paid heavyweight in the history of the company. More than Lesnar, more than anybody, and he turned the deal down... We're gonna release him from his contract. We're gonna give up our right to match, and he can go wherever he wants and do whatever he wants."

While Ngannou was likely offered the deal that White mentioned, he will certainly make way more money elsewhere, particularly if he participates in a heavyweight boxing match. He will become the first UFC active champion to leave the promotion since BJ Penn did so in 2004.
