Cynthia Calvillo is set to face Lupita Godinez at UFC 287 on April 9. Ahead of her return to strawweight, the 35-year-old Californian recently claimed that she was shocked at the judging at the UFC San Antonio event last weekend and wouldn't want to fight in Texas in the future.

The judging process in MMA has been a hot topic of discussion among fans for a while. However, the number of controversial scorecards seemed to have increased in recent times.

At the recently concluded UFC San Antonio event, the main event bout saw Cory Sandhagen defeat Marlon Vera via a baffling split decision, which ignited scathing reactions from fans who witnessed 'The Sandman's incredible performance.

The judging of the event also came under fire for the split decision scorecard for the Maycee Barber vs. Andrea Lee fight, which saw Barber edge out a controversial win.

In a recent interview with Middle Easy, Cynthia Calvillo weighed on the judging in Texas and if she'd ever want to fight there:

"I don’t want to fight in Texas. I was like this sh*t was crazy. Like even like the split between Chito and Sandhagen. I was like, what was going on here?”

UFC 287 : Cynthia Calvillo on Alexa Grasso beating Valentina Shevchenko

In the same interview, Cynthia Calvillo weighed in on Alexa Grasso's massive upset win over long-reigning flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 285. Grasso's win over Shevchenko made her the first-ever Mexican woman to win a UFC title and Calvillo wants to follow in her footsteps.

Speaking to Middle Easy, the No.15-ranked women's flyweight opened up about how seeing three Mexican champions in the UFC motivated her. She claimed a win over Lupita Godinez at UFC 287 will bring her closer to her goal of being champion:

"God damn you know you don’t ever count out a Mexican heart... Now we have three Mexican Champions... It’s very motivating and I’m excited and hopefully you know one of us Mexicans capture that strawweight division title."

She continued:

"I feel like I’m I’m gonna be the closest right now once I beat Lupi and yeah hopefully, keep it coming give more more titles to Mexico.”

UFC 287 is set to be headlined by a rematch between Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira in a middleweight barnburner. The co-main event will feature a middleweight bout with Jorge Masvidal going up against Gilbert Burns.
