Danielle Kelly sent condolences to Angela Lee and the Lee family after Angela’s younger sister Victoria tragically passed away in late December.
Danielle Kelly and Angela Lee have not always seen eye to eye. For some time, the two combat sports stars were regularly taking potshots at one another in the media. Still, the submission grappling sensation put all of that aside to mourn alongside her ONE Championship compatriot.
In a recent interview with The MMA Superfan, Kelly said:
“I’d like to say, Angela, I’m sorry for your loss. It’s not easy. I know what it’s like to lose someone very close to you. I’ve lost both my parents. It never goes away. You have a lot of fans, you have a lot of friends and family by your side. Stay around those people, that’s what’s important. Be with your family. Everything else doesn’t matter. You have to be around people who care for you, and everything else can wait."
Danielle Kelly continued:
“You just need to be around people to keep you busy. Especially losing a sibling, I have a brother. I can’t imagine something like that happening. It always scares me, it’s probably my biggest fear because he’s all I have. I understand how she [Lee] feels. I hope her family can get through this.”
Demetrious Johnson joins Danielle Kelly in offering his condolences to the Lee family
Reigning ONE flyweight world champion Demetrious Johnson joined BJJ black belt Danielle Kelly in offering condolences to the Lee family after the loss of ‘The Prodigy’ Victoria Lee late last year.
Speaking with the South China Morning Post, Johnson sympathized with the Lee family and shared his own tragic tale:
"Yeah, I got to bury my sister and it was hard. There are no words to say to make everybody feel better. A parent shouldn’t have to bury their child, a child should be burying their parents. My condolences to the Lee family and I wish them nothing but just privacy and peace."
Victoria Lee was an up-and-coming combat sports star who scored three wins inside the circle before graduating high school. Readying for a return to ONE Championship this year, Victoria Lee’s passing was a shock to the entire MMA community.
