Former UFC referee John McCarthy has stated that he isn't a fan of Dana White's Power Slap League.

White announced last November that he had invested in the slap-fighting league and that they had signed an eight-episode deal with TBS.

The show takes place at the UFC's Apex Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, and features both men and women competing. During a match, competitors stand across from one another with one labeled a striker and the other a defender. The objective of the game is to slap your opponent hard enough that they can't recover in 30 seconds.

There are 3-5 rounds per match and any knockdown will result in a 10-count from the referee.

Former octagon referee 'Big' John McCarthy, who has officiated some of the most brutal fights in UFC history, believes Dana White's new Power Slap League is just "sanctioned brain trauma." He stated in a recent episode of WEIGHING IN:

"I'm all for competition. I really am. I just find it hard to believe, especially with places like Nevada, that they are regulating sanctioned brain trauma. That's what it is. There's no defense of any type... How do you talk about this?... There really is no rules to it. What are these guys getting paid? They ain't getting paid sh*t."

Former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub believes Dana White's new Power Slap League is setting MMA back

Brendan Schaub recently took to Twitter to share his thoughts on Dana White's Power Slap League after the first episode aired on TBS this week.

According to Schaub, who last fought for the UFC in 2014, the sport being associated with the UFC brand is setting MMA back:

"Checking out the Slap fight league. This is the stupidest sh*t I've ever seen. The fact it's associated with the UFC sets the sport back 10 yrs. All that being said it's entertaining. Anyone wanna bet it's not around in a year?"

Despite criticizing White and the Power Slap League, Schaub added that he was interested in doing a live reaction show whenever the new episodes air:

"Also, you're crazy if you don't think I'm doing a Fight companion for the Slap league championship. Whenever that is. Whiskey, friends and slapping. How can I NOT! It's sooo insane #slapfight."
