The 28-year-old methodically broke down 'Samingpri' with precision and power as he landed the more damaging and cleaner shots throughout the match. Kongthoranee's kicks and stiff counterpunches were his primary weapons that kept Khalilov at bay.
This triumph has redeemed Kongthoranee as he returned to the winner's circle following a defeat from reigning two-sport and two-division world champion Superlek Kiatmoo9 in their June 2024 showdown at ONE Friday Fights 8. That result snapped his seven-fight winning streak.
Kongthoranee reveals why he accepted catchweight match against Tagir Khalilov
Less than a month after his unanimous decision victory over Khalilov, the Sor Sommai representative is now making a quick turnaround to face Nakrob Fairtex in a flyweight Muay Thai contest on Dec. 6 at ONE Fight Night 26 inside the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Ahead of that clash, Kongthoranee shared with ONE Championship through a recent interview the main reason why he accepted a catchweight bout with Khalilov despite him missing weight, as he explained:
"This fight, I passed the weigh-in on the first try. The moment I passed the weigh-in, I felt so happy and relieved. Even though Tagir didn't pass the weigh-in at the weight we had initially agreed upon, I had been training hard. I wanted to fight, so I decided to accept the offer to fight."
ONE Fight Night 26 airs live from the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, on Dec. 6, and North American viewers with an active Prime Video subscription can watch all the action live and for free.
