Take a look at the scorecards for the bantamweight bout:

Speaking on his podcast, Weighing in, Thomson stated that the judges made a mistake by awarding O'Malley a victory over Yan. He then went on to praise O'Malley's toughness:

"I said, 'He [O'Malley] ain't no bi**h, this guy came to f**king fight'. Sean O'Malley came to fight, Sean O'Malley is a dog. He was in there the whole time letting Petr Yan know, 'You're not gonna bully me around, you're not gonna hit me with big shots and think I'm gonna be afraid of you, you're not gonna kick my leg and think I'm scared of your leg kicks'."

Thomson continued to discuss O'Malley's mentality:

"'No, I'm coming after you. I'm not afraid of your takedowns, I'm not afraid of this'. I've been a Sean O'Malley fan, but this really did raise my level on how much I love watching him fight...He showed me that he's got it... He's the guy that really is a fighter, he's a true fighter."

Dana White shares his thoughts on Sean O'Malley's controversial UFC 280 victory

O'Malley's UFC 280 split-decision victory over Yan was quite controversial. Many believed that Yan was the true winner. UFC Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov believes that the No.1-ranked bantamweight won every round of the fight. UFC President Dana White was also among those who disagreed with the judges.

Speaking at the post-fight press conference, the UFC frontman stated:

"It was one of those razor thin close fights. I could see people saying Yan won the fight and I could see people saying O'Malley won the fight. What's weird is it wasn't the way I thought it was with the judges scorecard. I thought, depending on who you gave the first round to, determined who won the fight, but that was not the case apparently."

White's comments were notable as the UFC President had previously shared that the winner of the fight between O'Malley and Yan would fight for the bantamweight belt next. While O'Malley picked up the victory, it will be interesting to see if he is rewarded with a title opportunity.
