Anderson Silva recently gave rise to a bit of controversy by claiming to have been knocked down twice during a sparring session. While elaborating on his comments, 'The Spider' recently clarified that he wasn't knocked out.

According to Silva, he trains with youngsters and was merely trying to promote his sparring partner by claiming to have been knocked out. Speaking to the media at a press conference for his upcoming bout against Jake Paul, 'The Spider' said:

"Let me tell you something very important, when I talking about the guys doing the hard sparring and take me knockout, it's just joking, because I train with the young kids. And the guy ask me and I don't put nothing bad in my mind. The guy say, 'Oh, Anderson take knockout in the training.' Of course not. But I just like to help to putting my partners up."

Anderson Silva claims to have "misspoke" about getting knocked out

During an interview with MMA Weekly, Anderson Silva infamously claimed to have suffered two knockdowns during a sparring session. This gave rise to growing concerns about Silva's upcoming bout against Jake Paul, which is scheduled to go down in Arizona on October 29. Fighters above the age of 36 need an approval from the Arizona Gaming Commission to be liscensed.

However, Silva has since gone back on his comments, claiming to have "misspoke" during his English interview with MMA Weekly. According to 'The Spider', he somewhat exaggerated the back-and-forth that goes on in sparring. Silva said in an interview with TMZ Sports:

"After seeing the reports and concern for me, I’d like to clarify two important things. One, I was never knocked out in sparring. I misspoke in that interview as I sometimes do when interviewing in English and exaggerated the normal back-and-forth action that occurs in sparring. Second, this sparring session I referenced was in early September. The interview with MMA Weekly was done on Sept. 13 and, for some reason, just released this week. So, it wasn’t recent.”

Silva's claims about the interview being from September were also backed up by MMA Weekly.
