Former UFC fighter Gina Carano has featured as Cara Dune in two previous seasons of Disney's The Mandalorian. The third season of the show is now slated to air on Disney+ on March 1.

However, the long-awaited third season of the show will not feature Carano's Cara Dune character after the former MMA fighter's fallout with Disney. Other popular characters played by Pedro Pascal, Giancarlo Esposito, Carl Weathers, and Katee Sackhoff will return in the new season.

Gina Carano has been a part of the Star Wars series since the first season aired in 2019. The former MMA fighter was fired by Disney in 2021 over a series of contentious comments.

Journalist Richard Newby recently noted that Carano's character was on the cusp of achieving cult status before she "fumbled the bag."

Carano denied fumbling the bag and instead accused Newby of being a sellout journalist playing to a "manipulated mob." The former UFC star wrote:

"I didn’t fumble the bag I just didn’t go along with the sell out narrative, the online mob couldn’t handle that so they petitioned to have me fired & won. I’m not sorry for that. I stood for what I believe the right thing to do was & the more time that goes by the better I feel."

Why was Gina Carano fired by Disney?

Gina Carano was fired by Disney in February 2021 after repeatedly stirring up controversies on social media. The company was reportedly looking for a chance to fire Carano over transphobic and anti-mask tweets from the past.

The MMA fighter provided them with the perfect opportunity when she made a racist comment that sent Twitter users into a frenzy, urging Disney to fire her. Carano wrote in a now-deleted tweet:

"Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors. Because history is edited, most people today don't realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?" h/t Sportskeeda
