Jan Blachowicz's year-long light heavyweight title reign was put to an end by Brazilian legend Glover Teixeira. The Polish fighter has failed to regain the throne since and the belt has changed a further set of hands in the meantime.

Jan Blachowicz recently took to Twitter to recount his disappointing performance against Teixeira at UFC 267 and lamented the state of the division. He also assured fans that he will give it his best to put things right at light heavyweight:

"The Legendary Polish Power foiled a lot of plans in the LHW division. The mess is even bigger after I didn't perform well against Glover. But I'll do everything in my power to rectify this. #LegendaryPolishPower"

Blachowicz and Teixeira fought in the UFC 267 main event for the light heavyweight belt. The 38-year-old then-champion and the 42-year-old then-challenger made for a very experienced matchup, but it was Teixeira who asserted his ground game early on.

After the first round went Teixeira's way with his expertise on the mat clear for all to see, he pressed on with his strengths. A quick mount in the second round resulted in a rear-naked choke and a historic championship victory for Glover Teixeira.

The Brazilian became the oldest first-time champion in UFC history and ended Blachowicz's five-fight winning streak.

Jan Blachowicz says Glover Teixeira owes him a rematch after his retirement announcement

Glover Teixeira fought twice after his championship win against Jan Blachowicz, both in title fights. However, the 43-year-old did not find the same success as he lost his belt to Jiri Prochazka at UFC 275 and failed to win the vacant title back against Jamahal Hill at UFC 283.

After his loss to Hill this month in front of his home crowd in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Teixeira announced his retirement from the sport.

Blachowicz took to Twitter to laud the career of his former foe and termed him "one of the greatest in MMA." He also reminded Glover Teixeira that he owes him a rematch and hoped to see him on the mat:

"Glover Teixeira announced his retirement. One of the greatest in MMA industry. The Legend. It was a true honor to crossed the gloves with you in the @ufc Octagon. P.S. Bro, but you must remember that you still own me a rematch! [winking face emoji] So see you on the mat @gloverteixeira! Oss!"
