Jarred Brooks will walk into the new year as the ONE strawweight world champion. Capturing the belt at ONE 164 against rival Joshua Pacio, Brooks is looking forward to his next challenge inside the Circle. Before moving onto his first strawweight world title defense, ‘The Monkey God’ sat down with ONE Championship to discuss his animosity towards Pacio leading up to their ONE 164 showdown earlier this month:“He had something that I wanted. I mean, it's more, at the end of the day, and it's more in all angles, I'm going to bring it mentally, I'm going to bring it physically on you. I'm going to make you feel like you aren't the fighter that you want [to be]. Because why wouldn't I make it easier on myself at the end of the day?”Jarred Brooks means no disrespect to his opponents. Instead, he sees it as mental warfare. It’s a simple, but effective way to get into the head of your opponent long before the cage door shuts behind the both of you“All of these guys, I just fought for a world championship, he's a world champion, he is dangerous. You have to approach the fight game like it's mental warfare and physical warfare. So yeah, it's just a way of getting in your opponent's head. And that's how you win fights at the end of the day. And that's been good for me.” View this post on Instagram Instagram PostJarred Brooks believes his 'mental warfare' puts him "ahead of the game"‘The Monkey God’ may be known for his special brand of trash talk, or “mental warfare” as he puts it, but he wasn’t always that type of fighter. Asked if he had ever gone into a fight without "mind games," Brooks confirmed he had in his earlier days, but believes implementing his verbal skills gives him an edge inside the circle.“When I first started fighting. But I've always had that mentality. That's why I've always tried to bring the warfare, I : how to do this game at a young age. So now I feel like I'm ahead of the game, not necessarily physically, but mentally, I'm ahead of the game.”It would be hard to argue against the effectiveness of Jarred Brooks’ mental warfare. Since debuting for ONE Championship, he has earned four straight wins and is now a ONE world champion. With an overall record of 20-2-0, ‘The Monkey God’ shows no signs of slowing down both physically and mentally. View this post on Instagram Instagram Post
