Joe Rogan recently opened up about Nick Diaz's incredible cardio and discussed an insane feat the UFC fighter pulled off on several occasions. Diaz was known for his relentless pace throughout his career, as he would land a large volume of strikes.
At the same time, the Stockton native would trash-talk his opponents during the exchanges, leaving them visibly frustrated and exhausted.
In a recent episode of his JRE podcast, Rogan discussed Diaz's cardio as being incomparable due to the extremes he could go to. The longtime UFC commentator mentioned that Diaz completed a swim from Alcatraz in a shark-infested ocean at least five times, with the total likely being double by now. He said:
"Nick's prime, he was a bad motherfu**er, dude. He was a terrifying guy cause he had the most insane cardio that's ever existed. This guy swam from Alcatraz to the shore. He swam five times... Since then, he's probably swam a bunch more. So, he's probably like, ten times now."

He added:
"Swim from Alcatraz in the ocean with the sharks, the thing that was supposed to keep people from ever escaping that island. People voluntarily do it, he's done it a ton of times."

Joe Rogan explains how Nick Diaz used cardio to his advantage
Joe Rogan also explained how Nick Diaz used his cardio to his advantage throughout his career and was successful in doing so.
In the aforementioned JRE episode, Rogan mentioned that Diaz would overwhelm his opponents with strikes, not full strength, before ramping up the intensity and throwing with full power once they became tired. He said:
"[Diaz would] put a pace on you and hit you with like, 50% punches... But constantly have in your face while he's talking sh*t, 'What are you gonna do, bi*ch?'... And then every now and then, rip one to the body."[2:08:58]
